iOS 14.5 Beta Includes PS5 and Xbox Series X Controller Support

Back in November, an iOS 14.3 beta included support for the PS5 DualSense and the Amazon Luna controllers. When iOS 14.3 eventually released, there was no support for the PS5 DualSense controller. We are currently on iOS 14.4 with no support for either the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S controller yet. Today, Apple just released the first iOS 14.5 beta and it includes support for not just the PS5 DualSense controller but also the Xbox Series X controller as noted by our sister site Macrumors. Recently, Steam has slowly been adding and improving support for the PS5 DualSense controller. I’ve been using my PS5 DualSense controller on Steam games over the last week and it has mostly been great in every game with just a little bit of tweaking needed in some of them.

Hopefully once iOS 14.5 ships, both controllers will be fully supported including sensors and all the buttons. Sony will likely update its own PS Remote Play app for using the controller as well. It has been a wild ride for anyone using controllers on iOS ever since Apple initially introduced MFi controller support to iOS 13 and more recently iOS 14 where the PS4 and Xbox controllers have now become great to use across iOS and Apple Arcade games. Hopefully this time, the controller support makes it into the final release and improves over time. What controller do you use on iOS and iPadOS right now and do you plan on continuing to use your controller or move to the PS5 DualSense or Xbox Series X controllers?
