WWDC 2020: New Controllers, Rumble Support, Motion Controls, Custom Button Mapping, and More Confirmed for iOS 14 and iPadOS 14

WWDC 2020 has revealed quite a bit of good stuff for iOS 14, iPadOS 14, and Apple Arcade already with a plethora of additions and enhancements coming not just to the OS but also to the App Store. After WWDC 2020’s opening presentation ended, the developer videos and plans for the week have revealed quite a bit of information for Apple’s plans this year on iPhone and iPad. An “Advancements in Game Controllers" session for WWDC 2020 has revealed some excellent things coming for controllers on iOS, iPadOS, and more. We are finally getting rumble support through Core Haptics and the Game Controller framework from Apple.

The Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 and Adaptive Controller are confirmed for iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 in addition to Apple TV now. The new game controller features also include custom button remapping, motion sensors (allowing for motion controls which will be a game changer in any game requiring aiming), lights and battery levels, and more. Custom button mapping is a big deal for accessibility. Hopefully this works on a system level like it does on Nintendo Switch as of the latest major software update. All of this is awesome and if you missed it, Apple is also bringing keyboard and mouse gaming support to iPad. If you missed the other gaming announcements and reveals from WWDC 2020, read this.
