Remember the trailer for the Crescent Moon Games' upcoming title Gears? No? Well here it is again, and it's really worth watching a second time just to marvel at how they've manage to clip together gameplay footage of a ball rolling game to make it seem this epic:

Sure, Crescent Moon is known for their RPG offerings like Aralon: Sword and Shadow and Ravensword: The Fallen King, but there's no disputing the fact that ball rolling games have worked great on iOS devices, especially when combined with both adventure and puzzle elements. Dark Nebula Episode 1 [99¢] and Dark Nebula Episode 2 [$1.99] are fantastic examples of this.

Developer Josh Presseisen provided us the following hands-on video today, and while I'm not entirely sure it will live up to everyone's expectations after that crazy of a trailer, it does look pretty cool:

Gears is scheduled for release as a universal app in early March, and while they're not discussing final pricing yet, they've said it will be comparable with similar games on the App Store. We can't wait to try a finalized version of the game to see if the Crescent Moon magic that made Ravensword and Aralon is capable of transcending genres or not.

That was so beautiful it almost made me cry. It's like Marble Madness on steroids, and since I'm a huge Marble Madness fan and we've not seen a true port of that one yet, I'll be all over this when it comes out. Thank you, Crescent Moon.

I'm looking forward to this release... but can you change the sound effect while picking up gears, because even in the short trailer, the sound got annoying.

    • Josh Presseisen

Now that I think about it - that sound annoys me too! I'll make a better one.

      • Alienmario

just a suggestion-make more sounds that slightly differ and play them randomly

So it's Marble Madness meets Super Mario Galaxy only with gears instead of mini planets. Cool. I LOVED SMG.

    • Josh Presseisen

hmmm... well its definitely a platformer/ball roller, but wouldn't go as far as to say its like Super Mario Galaxy(although I do love that game)

I thought Dark Nebula's tilt controls couldn't be topped, but the swipe anywhere control method looks brilliant - like a virtual trackball! This will be an instant purchase for me!

And it's always cool when the developer posts in the forums with us - that's one thing I love about the indie dev scene!

Im still waiting for them to fix aralons dark screen glitch so i can continue my game >_>. Until then im definently never buying anything else from Cresent Moon games.

I just hope they did better bug hunting and bug fixing on this game, with Aralon crashing and Ravensword getting stuck at certain end-level scenarios, I kinda regret buying both of them.
