The road that Junk Jack X has traveled has been an interesting one. Originally, this was set to be an update of sorts to the first Junk Jack ($0.99), an awesome 2D builder similar to Minecraft or Terraria that launched way back in 2011. However, it seemed to spin off into its own new standalone game which developer PixBits officially dubbed Junk Jack X this past May. Basically, Junk Jack X will take everything great about the first game and add a bunch of new stuff on top of it, most notably online multiplayer and distinctive new worlds to visit. We got a quick glimpse of some of those worlds last month when Junk Jack X entered its beta period.
Today, PixBits announced on their blog that the beta period is just about wrapped up, as is the initial development of Junk Jack X. As such they’ll be shipping the game off to Apple any day now, which means that we’ll all be crafting, building and exploring in strange new worlds hopefully in just the next few weeks. I personally can’t wait. Here are some new iPad screens of Junk Jack X to whet the ol’ appetite.
Furthermore, PixBits explains that they were able to cram in all of their ideas that they initially had planned for Junk Jack X, including 5 distinct worlds to visit and explore. Beyond that, they still have a ton of ideas in the pipeline that they’ll be looking to add to Junk Jack X post-release via updates. Additionally, as PixBits has hinted at several times in the past, they are not fans of freemium and Junk Jack X will be $4.99 at launch for the entire game upfront. If you’re as stoked for Junk Jack X as I am, then you’ve already got it locked and loaded in your TouchArcade (Free) Watch List, so keep an eye out for a firm release date in the very near future.

Makes me want to get it.....LIKE NOW!
Buy both.
Does anyone know when they will release this for android? The game is good on my iphone but hard to control sometimes. I have a 10 inch tablet but its android. I bet terraria will be amazing on a large screen. You iPad guys are in for a treat :/
It is much better on iPad. Just like JJ.
I have no idea about any plans to release on android. Then again, I don't really keep up on that news. All my mobile devices are Apple, makes cross-compatibility a breeze and every time I buy a universal game on my phone (like these) it's basically like getting the iPad version for free.
You can have 10 hotbars just simpily pause the game which is that button on top right and there will be an option to change from 5 to 10 hot bars
This week is an embarrassment of riches for crafting crazies. I'm in 7th heaven.
I found the controls pretty awkward, personally. I ended up with random little blocks jutting out because I couldn't zoom without placing. I'll probably get more comfortable with time. And, oh yes, there will be time.
The controls are not great at all.
Am I the only who can't drag any items when a dialogue box is up? I may not be able to all in fact. Haven't gotten past the tutorial
And that picture of that guy in your house is that NPC that spawns when start a world the one who gives u help. He's the first NPC to move in once you make a room
I'll buy whichever goes on sale first. Ready...set...GO!
Why not buy them at full price to support these great developers?
What if you don't have 6.50 and want to wait....
Because I've already bought more games than will fit on my phone, many many many times over, that I mostly haven't even played yet...often deleting games I just bought to make room for buying more games. Many if which I'll never play or played for an hour and then deletes. I can't afford for my addiction to start including $5 games. ;-)
Does ANYone think either will get less than 5/5 from TA???
:]
Why pay for either of them when The Blockheads is free?
Because Terraria and Junk Jack X make The blockheads looks silly
Damn, I hate it when the zoom functionality is super near. I'm going to have to pass on this one :(
I bought them both. I haven't played terraria much (I played a helluva alot of junk jack x tho) but I have terraria on psn so I know it's great. They are both worth the 4.99. So buy them!!!
You can craft platforms without a crafting bench.
"Great" control scheme? I'd say, serviceable controls - but not great.
Try Junk Jack X. After a lot of deliberation between the two games, I decided to give it a try. Not sorry I did.
Pocket Gamer recently reviewed both Terraira and Junk Jack X.
Terrarira got a 7 out of 10: "Terraria's mix of creative crafting and endless exploration will keep you rapt for weeks. But a lack of multiplayer and some wonky touchscreen controls let the experience down."
Junk Jack X got an 8 out of 10: "A polished and well-contructed side-scrolling sandbox, Junk Jack X doesn't build much on the foundations of its predecessor, but what it adds is well worth exploring."
