Guide to Beat ‘Hearthstone’ Molten Core Heroic, Normal, and Class Challenges – Tips and Decks for Blackrock Mountain Adventure’s Second Wing

TouchArcade Rating:

So, Blizzard has spiced up our day by releasing Molten Core, the second Wing for Hearthstone‘s(Free) Blackrock Mountain (BRM) Adventure, and it’s quite a fun one. I’m really enjoying what Blizzard’s been doing with BRM so far, and I’m hoping that the new influx of cards will break Face Hunter’s dominance in the Meta and make the game more fun for everyone.

Before we get started, here are some other Hearthstone-related guides on TouchArcade

So, without further ado, let’s venture into the Molten Core.

Garr Boss Normal & Heroic Guide

Hearthstone 6The first Molten Core Boss is Garr, a large obsidian elemental who is, well, quite fiery. His Hero Power is Magma Pulse: Deal 1 damage to all minions, and he starts the encounter with 7 Firesworn minions on the board (and will also summon more through Rock Out) which act as a ticking timebomb during this encounter. These minions have a Deathrattle: Deal 1 damage (or 3 damage in Heroic) to the enemy hero for each Firesworn that died this turn. Garr will trigger his Hero Power every turn, so you really need to make sure you damage the minions on different turns and different levels to stagger their demise. If they all die at the same time you are pretty much done.

There’s a variety of strategies you can use, like playing minions with Enrage to turn Garr’s Hero Power on him, but my favorite strategy is using Grim Patron because it’s just too much fun. If you manage to play him early, every time Garr uses his power you summon another Patron, and each turn the Patrons multiply rapidly. Garr also uses Madder Bomber even if you have a Patron on the board so, yeah, you can imagine how my board looked after that. Silence minions might help too, but there are so many Firesworns on the board at any given time that silencing them isn’t really that viable of a strategy. Unless, of course, you have the Priest’s Mass Dispel which will silence all enemy minions for 4 mana. Try and bring minions that have more than 1 health so they can stick around the board to attack next turn even if Garr triggers his Hero Power. Warrior decks also work because you can use some armor cards and the Warrior Hero power to protect yourself from the Firesworns.

Here’s Garr’s Normal Deck:

1x Madder Bomber
1x Flamewaker
1x Volcanic Lumberer
1x Dark Iron Dwarf
1x Axe Flinger
1x Unbound Elemental
2x Core Hound
2x Mark of the Wild
2x Fire Elemental
1x Fireguard Destroyer
1x Rockbiter Weapon
2x Rock Out
1x Lava Shock
1x Bloodlust

On Heroic Level, Garr has 45 Health instead of 30.

If you’re looking for a deck to beat Garr, try neoangel’s Healing Thiefadin:

1x Coghammer
2x Truesilver Champion
1x Cairne Bloodhoof
1x Emperor Thaurissan
1x Sylvanas Windrunner
1x Tirion Fordring
2x Sea Giant
2x Crazed Alchemist
2x Grim Patron
2x Mind Control Tech
2x Acolyte of Pain
1x Argent Protector
2x Earthen Ring Farseer
2x Voodoo Doctor
1x Lay on Hands
2x Avenge
2x Blessing of Kings
2x Seal of Light
1x Hammer of Wrath

Your reward for defeating Garr is two copies of Druid of the Flame, not the most interesting card really.

Baron Geddon Boss Normal & Heroic Guide

Hearthstone 12This fight is a bit on the irritating side but can be quite easy if you plan your deck right. Baron’s Hero Power Ignite Mana costs 0 Mana and deals 5 damage to the enemy hero (10 damage on Heroic difficulty) if they have any unspent Mana. In other words, go on a Mana spending spree for Geddon to avoid all that damage. Have a well planned mana curve for this one and plan your plays in advance to avoid getting stuck with extra mana. Go with a rush deck to have plenty of low-mana cards to avoid those awkward moments and to get plenty of face damage fast before mana math becomes too complicated in later turns.

His Deck List on Normal consists of:

2x Lava Shock
1x Flameheart
1x Lava Burst
2x Molten Giant
2x Living Bomb
2x Flame Imp
2x Flamewaker
1x Fireguard Destroyer
1x Magma Rager
1x Fire Elemental
1x Imp Gang Boss

On Heroic, Geddon has 50 health and 50 armor, so he’s definitely harder to rush than on Normal.

His Heroic Deck List consists of:

1x Hellfire
2x Lava Shock
1x Lava Burst
2x Flameheart
3x Living Bomb
1x Magma Rager
2x Imp Gang Boss
2x Flamewaker
2x Molten Giant
2x Flame Imp
2x Druid of the Flame
2x Fire Elemental
2x Fireguard Destroyer

If you’re looking for a deck to beat Geddon, try this Echo Mage deck by Pockyloveandjoy:

2x Echo of Medivh
2x Ice Block
1x Blizzard
2x Unstable Portal
1x Duplicate
2x Flamestrike
2x Frost Nova
2x Frostbolt
2x Arcane Intellect
2x Fireball
2x Molten Giant
2x Ethereal Arcanist
2x Acolyte of Pain
2x Youthful Brewmaster
2x Antique Healbot
2x Mad Scientist

When you defeat Geddon, you’ll receive Blackwing Technician, admittedly a much better card than the Druid of Flame, especially if you like Dragon Decks.

Majordomo Executus Boss Normal & Heroic Guide

Hearthstone 9Molten Core’s third boss also has the coolest name of the three (sounds like a Heavy Metal Band). Majordomo’s power, The Majordomo (again, heavy metal band, seriously), allows him to Summon a 1/3 Flamewaker Acolyte for 2 Mana on Normal and a 3/3 Flamewaker Acolyte for 2 Mana on Heroic. In other words, expect to have to deal with this minion pretty much every turn. He also loves to play Molten Giants, so expect some heavy-weight visitors in later turns. In other words, you need to rush him and keep hitting face because if you plan to win in the later turns, you’ll probably get overwhelmed by the Giants.

It’s important to remember that when Majordomo dies, Ragnaros takes his place so plan on having to kill him too. Don’t take Majordomo to 10 health if you aren’t sure your board state is strong enough to help you beat Ragnaros. On Normal, Ragnaros has 8 health and 8 armor while on Heroic, he has 30 health and 30 armor. His Hero Power is deal 8 damage to a random enemy, so make sure you have plenty of minions on the board to increase your chances of Ragnaros taking out a minion rather than you. Taunt minions could also protect you, at least for a bit, if Molten Giants start getting out of control, but I wouldn’t bet too much on being able to just Taunt your way out of trouble. It’s better to try and rush so carry some good spells and strong AOE spells for removal.

His Deck list on Normal consists of:

2x Fireball
2x Lava Shock
1x Lava Burst
6x Molten Giant
2x Core Rager
2x Flamewaker
1x Flame Imp
2x Magma Rager
2x Fire Elemental
1x Core Hound
1x Fireguard Destroyer

His Deck list on Heroic consists of:

2x Lava Shock
2x Lava Burst
2x Fireball
10x Molten Giant
2x Core Rager
2x Core Hound
2x Flame Imp
2x Fire Elemental
2x Flamewaker
2x Magma Rager
2x Fireguard Destroyer

If Majordomo is giving you a hard time, try Chakki’s Shade deck:

2x Lay on Hands
2x Blessed Champion
1x Equality
2x Muster for Battle
2x Blessing of Wisdom
2x Blessing of Kings
2x Consecration
1x Seal of Light
2x Hammer of Wrath
1x Emperor Thaurissan
1x Kel’Thuzad
1x Tirion Fordring
2x Quartermaster
2x Shade of Naxxramas
2x Aldor Peacekeeper
1x Antique Healbot
2x Shielded Minibot
2x Truesilver Champion

When you defeat both Majordomo and Ragnaros, you get Imp Gang Boss, a fun Demon for your Warlock decks. Defeating the whole wing will get you the second BRM Legendary, Majordomo Executes himself.

Class Challenges

This week’s wing comes with the Shaman and Warrior Class Challenges.

Shaman Class

For this challenge you’ll face Baron Geddon. As with the Geddon Boss battle, try not to have any leftover mana to avoid his Hero Power. Watch his Living Bombs because they can clean out your board if you don’t take them out on your turn. So, make sure you are ready to use your removal on your own minion if it means saving your board state.

This is the deck that you have to battle the Shaman:

1x Lightning Bolt
1x Feral Spirit
2x Lava Shock
2x Hex
1x Lightning Storm
1x Lightning Bolt
1x Rockbiter Weapon
1x Neptulon
1x Earth Elemental
1x Whirling Zap-o-matic
1x Flametongue Totem
1x Dust Devil
1x Unbound Elemental
1x Fireguard Destroyer

Beating the Shaman will give you Lava Shock, a card that might make Warlock decks much more interesting to me.

Warrior Class

In this Challenge you’ll fight Garr. The strategy to beat this challenge becomes quite simple once you realize that all of your deck cards love taking damage. Try to set up combos where you damage your Axe Flinger while having a Berserker on the board and then Rampage your Flinger for extra damage. In general, your strategy should be to maximize the opportunities provided to you whenever one of your minions takes damage, and don’t be afraid to damage them yourself as long as your board is set up right.

This is the deck you’ll have to use to overcome this challenge.

2x Execute
3x Rampage
3x Frothing Berserker
1x Dragon Egg
1x Acolyte of Pain
1x Armorsmith
3x Axe Flinger
2x Amani Berserker
3x Warbot
2x Cruel Taskmaster

Completing this challenge will get you Axe Flinger, a card I’m personally quite excited about after having faced him during last week’s Boss fights.

Molten Core is an entertaining wing, and I really feel like Blizzard is hitting its stride with BRM. I’m looking forward to Blackrock Spire next week and to seeing all the crazy decks Majordomo will help create. We should have a cheap deck version of this Guide up on TouchArcade soon.

See you all here next week for the guide on how to beat Blackrock Spire.
