This morning, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruled that an e-mail ad for Electronic Arts' much-maligned Dungeon Keeper [Free] was misleading to the average consumer. Specifically, the ASA took issue with the ad's claim that Dungeon Keeper was "free," ruling that the ad didn't include crucial information about the game's in-app purchases...

Mo' Money, Mo' MOBA: CD Projekt RED Announce 'The Witcher Battle Arena'

Yesterday CD Projekt Red, in conjunction with Fuero Games, announced The Witcher Battle Arena for iOS. As the name suggests, the new game is a multiplayer online battle arena game (MOBA), in the vein of Riot's League of Legends or Valve's Dota 2. The catch, of course, is that all of the characters are from the Witcher, a series of sprawling PC and console role-playing games, based on a group of fantasy novels by Polish author Andrezj Sapkowski...

Last week, we got wind that animator and designer David O'Reilly, famous for his work on Spike Jonze' Her, Adventure Time, and shorts like The External World, was submitting his first game to the App Store. In a rare Tuesday morning release, Mountain [$0.99] is now available...

If you're not playing Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign [Free], now's as good a time as any to start: with a steady stream of updates, content, characters, and tweaks, the game is better now than it was nine months ago when it was released. Marvel Puzzle Quests's most recent update, rolled out earlier this week, introduces "True Healing," however, much to the chagrin of its most vocal fans...

Check, mate: 'Chess 2: The Sequel' Coming to iPad

According to a short and sweet post on the Ludeme Games website, Chess 2: The Sequel is iPad bound and apparently "coming soon." The somewhat obviously-titled game was until recently an Ouya exclusive, having been released late last year for the undersized Android console. Chess 2 is a two-pronged effort from designer Dave Sirlin and Zac Burns, the founder of Ludeme Games. Sirlin—who became famous for his work rebalancing Super Street Fighter II HD Turbo remix, and who recently released a card-battle game called Yomi [$9.99 (HD)]—wrote the new rules, and Ludeme is handling the development side...

New Dogs, New Tricks: Trichotomy Games Brings Mushing to iOS with 'Dog Sled Saga'

Lisa Bromiel and Dan FitzGerald are the two-person team from Chicago-based Trichotomy Games, and they're making a game about dogsledding. If the idea of throwing biscuits to a team of pixelated malamutes isn't immediately exciting, maybe reading Brian Phillips' 20,000-word opus about the beauty, drama, and danger of the annual Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race will perk you up. Either way, check out Dog Sled Saga...

Gorgeous Tactical RPG 'The Banner Saga' Coming to Tablets this Summer

This morning Versus Evil, a publisher-consultant for independent games, announced via Twitter that Stoic Studio's The Banner Saga was making its way to tablets this summer. The Banner Saga is a Norse-themed role-playing game mixed with a survival sim. While your caravan flees the overwhelming horde of Dredge, you'll need to ration food, keep morale up, and protect your people. Your oxen might not die fording a river, but your best reaver might fall off a cliff trying to save a wagon full of salted beef and potatoes. When it's time to hold your ground against the Dredge, a grid-based tactical RPG takes over, with a focus on efficiency and positioning...

First Three 'Blackwell' Adventure Games Coming to App Store July 10th

We've known since late last year that Wadjet Eye Games was in the process of porting its back catalogue to iOS, but the indie developer and publisher announced its latest crop of games today: the first three titles in the Blackwell series of point-and-click adventure games are coming to iOS next week. Blackwell Legacy, Blackwell Unbound, and Blackwell Convergence will all hit the App Store on July 10th, though there's no pricing info available yet...

We dug on Crowman and Wolfboy[$2.99]when it was released as a premium title late last year, but the invisible hand of the App Store has once again shown itself: developer Wither Studios just released a free version of the game...

Gorgeous Strategy Board Game Hybrid 'Armello' Coming to iPad Next Year

Armello sounds like a candy bar stuffed with caramel and, like, nougat, but it's actually a gorgeous strategy game coming to iPad next year. Developed by Australian indie conglomerate League of Geeks, Armello is a digital board and card game about the power and politics of a mystical animal kingdom of the same name. A mysterious disease called Rot has driven the once-benevolent (lion) king mad, and Armello's various clans rise up in response. It sounds simultaneously obvious and dopey when you say it out loud, but Armello's lush and vibrant art direction makes the premise easy to buy into...

This morning a new update washed up on Boom Beach's [Free], uhh, beaches. Supercell is calling the update "A New Hope for Victory Screen Enthusiasts," and it includes, of course, a new victory screen...

Hexual Urges: Release Date Announced for Dinofarm's 'Auro'

Auro is a turn-based tactics game about, well, pushing monsters out of their hexagonally-tiled dungeon and into a huge underground lake. It's also the new project from Dinofarm games and designer Keith Burgun, not to be confused with another Auro [Free (HD)], which is a steampunk puzzle game...

Introducing 'Miniverse': A Clever Puzzle Game About Saving People in Space

Here's something neat I found over the weekend: it's called Miniverse, and it's an action-puzzle game in development from a two-person team calling themselves Coding Cat Games...

In 'Severed,' You Dismember Your Enemies and Use Their Limbs as Your Own

DrinkBox Studios, best known for last year's Guacamelee!, are making their mobile debut in 2015 with Severed, a first-person exploration and combat game with a killer art style and a soundtrack to match...

'Wayward Souls' Is Finding Its Way to the App Store Later This Month

In a late-night post on its Facebook page, Rocketcat Games officially announced that Wayward Souls will hit the iOS App Store on April 24th. This isn't entirely unsurprising—the game was submitted to Apple earlier this month, after all—but it's nice to have a firm date after a longer-than-expected development cycle...
