‘Myst’ Sequel ‘Riven’ Coming Soon

According to a post on the Myst Online forums, an iPhone port of Riven, the sequel to Myst [App Store], should be available “by early summer at the latest."

Myst is a point and click adventure puzzle game first published for the Mac in 1993. Loaded on a CD-ROM, Myst was absolutely revolutionary at the time. We enjoyed the iPhone port in our review, and there’s not much reason to think that Riven wouldn’t translate to the iPhone just as well.

Riven is set immediately following the events that transpired in Myst and the plot is hard to describe without revealing some spoilers from the original game. It’s safe to say if the iPhone port of Myst was your first foray in to the series, you will also enjoy Riven as it was highly praised by critics and comes packed with even more immersive puzzles to get hopelessly stuck on.

Unfortunately it sounds like the rest of the Myst games might not be making it to the iPhone due to technical issues and licensing, but news of Riven joining Myst on the App Store should get any fan of the series excited.

Thanks Cougarcat

"I have never seen such bravery!"

I guess this is what the devs of The Relic get for annoucing to the world what they are doing And then pushing their project back.

No mention, of "Gauntlet" in this preview?

    I mean....it's kinda....similar, don't you think?

  3. QuickWit

I agree about the "Gauntlet" look to things... Not that I mind, but it does seem a little obvious. I kept waiting for "Warrior Needs Food... Badly!" to be voiced. But the game does look fun

first great looking gauntlet successor i've seen in years.

ah... from the makers of i dig it... and the abandoned tower defense game dungeon defense which i bought with a promise of updates... i guess no thanks are the right words for this game....

The iDig It apps are part of the stores crown jewels! Not having played them is having missed a whole lot of fun! InMotion is offering premium quality.
(That TD was a case of fun for a few hours; compared to the stuff other developers offer... it was just average (with above the average eye candy and polish) - nothing more or less.)

I don't fully agree. Of all the TD's I bought, I found that DD was the one that had the most potential. But sadly, it was abandoned. Understandable I guess if the devs felt that I Dig It was doing so well that they had to make a sequel, but I too can't help feeling a bit sad for DD.

Graphically it looks good, but the audio seems pretty wimpy (except the music). Gameplay between the three classes also seems very similar - just doesn't look like there's much variety. Still...something to keep an eye on...

AH HA! It is a modern-day clone of Gauntlet, my beloved 1980s arcade game, not those crappy 3-D remakes that were made. I had figured as much after seeing the developer posted info in the forums yesterday... Looking pretty smooth, I'll be picking it up!

    I want Alien Breed :)
But I really, I mean REALLY, like the icon.

  10. RPGGuy

Looks like Dark Raider, without modern weapons.

Love the graphical smoothness. I'd have to try a lite version before picking it up, but it looks really good from this vid.

      Lite version? Its .99c.

Where do we request multiplayer? That could be epic.

Yeah, I'm surprised no Gauntlet mention in the preview, 'cos it's unbelievably obvious, even different classes. I'm quite happy about that though, the original and its first sequel were classics. (The rest in the series were all complete rubbish though.) GRaphically this looks quite sweet. Sound is a bit pale, I agree. Still, I think this will give survival shooters the much needed exploration and dungeon elements that I've felt they all needed.

I don't agree with everything in this blog post, but you do make some very good points. Im very interested in this topic and I myself do alot of research as well. Either way it was a well thoughtout and nice read so I figured I would leave you a comment. Feel free to check out my website sometime and let me know what you think.
