iPhone publisher Chillingo, who most recently brought us Vector Tanks, has a number of games “in the oven" right now. Among them is an iPhone conversion of the mobile 3D adventure The Quest.
THE QUEST is a graphically stunning, engaging and sinister world full of magic, music and provocative challenges.
Choose from five customizable races and an array of skills, attributes, weapons, armor and enchantments, then explore a huge non-linear realm of four different cities and a wilderness of mountains, caves, lakes and forests.
Play an absorbing card game, solve brain-teasing quests and clash with dangerous opponents in this turn- and skill-based role playing game.
You will have many choices, including some that may place you against the law, along your way to the dramatic end of your own choosing. You will need all your gaming know-how to survive and discover your destiny!
Oldschool gamers may find The Quest reminiscent of a combination of The Bard’s Tale and Dungeon Master–not quite real-time, first-person 3D.
See Chillingo’s gameplay video for a closer look.
The Quest is currently in beta and we expect it to be released in the very near future. We’ll take a closer look when the game hits the App Store. Users who want to get a rough feel for the iPhone version can download a free trial version of the game for Windows, Palm, and Pocket PC at Chillingo’s ClickGamer game page.
The Quest is being discussed in a lengthy forum thread started by Chillingo.
Sounds great! I always thought it would be nice to have an opening window instead of open>press>play
Peter,
I LOVE this game. But, Please please please, I know it is a little contradictory to the whole retro spirit, but please...
1) Online leaderboards, (like blue attack!) would be great, (It'll REALLY keep me coming back) And...
2) some sort of statistics (tanks killed, jeeps killed, max score from single shot, time played, etc.)
I really think these things would add to the games re-playability.
Whatcha think?
@gootch12 haha. im not sure if you are directing that towards me... but if you are i just wanna let you know im not the peter that made the game. haha. i think those ideas sound great though. XD
@PeterM11 lol that's funny. I didn't even notice that the previous poster (you) was named Peter! I was directing the request towards Peter Hirschberg. But thanks for backing me up on the ideas! :)
@gootch12
hahaha. no problem.
Online leaderboards is something I am looking into right now and will definitely be in an upcoming version. That and network play are my 2 most requested features!
-Peter
Thanks Peter, that's great! What do you think about statistics someday? Oh, and how are those helicopters coming along?!? ;)
Picking this one up now :)
Looking forward to some enhanced retro arcade action.
I have such fond memories of Battlezone.
Thanks for the update news Peter.

YUUUUCKKKKKKKK!!!
Just downloaded this - pure awesome! Perfect for this retro fan, and much easier to play than the original Battlezone.
Update sounds fantastic, can't wait - looking forward to menus, and most of all the vector glow and brightness options.
Well done!!!
I was actually thinking of doing some statistics the other day and then I saw your comment. Consider it on my "todo" list!
I got about halfway through modeling a helicopter but got distracted by other things. :-)
It will probably be 1.3 before the helicopters are in as 1.2 will have additional tanks, tanks with turrets, and more than one tank attacking at a time. I'm hoping to wrap that up by next week.
-Peter
Excellent! Thank you. Thank you. :)
P.S. I only referenced blue attack!'s leaderboards because they are particularly well implemented. They include local/global & all scores/daily. Very nice. (Although for now it is only the top ten, top fifty would be better.) You might want to check it out if you haven't.
Thanks again! LOVE your game already...looking forward to all the updates!
Wow, Vector Tanks seems have a lot of forward movement. I've learned to buy games for what they are now and not what they might be in the future but Peter's features are putting this on my watch list. I'm heavily considering by the game as is as it reminds me of Battlezone and Spectra Challanger.
I'm in my early 40s and Vector Tanks is probably the game I play the most on my iPhone. Of course, I'm old enough to remember pumping quarters into the old game in our small town arcade, "back in the day", and it is safe to say that I was addicted to the concept. But Peter Hirschberg's version trumps them all. I annoyed a dental hygienist the other day while playing this game in the waiting room. She called my name not once, not twice, but THREE times. I was lost in the heat of battle and couldn't be bothered! I had no qualms with the game in its present state (I didn't even know there were shooting stars, for example, let alone "broken" ones!) but hey, updates are always welcome. Thanks, Peter.
When you get the update, I'd love to hear your feedback!
Implement multiplayer features, and we'll talk.
Got the update a night or two ago - works perfectly. Makes an already great app even better!!
Any new updates? I'm hoping for incoming missiles and such.
