It’s been a while since we’ve had occasion to sound the “Five Alarm" here at TouchArcade Towers, but this one is so hot we’re thinking of selling Andy Fretz to our prestigious competitors to cover the costs of installing a sixth alarm. For the very first time, ustwo’s Monument Valley ($3.99) is completely free on the App Store. If for some reason you haven’t already bought the game, you can now pick it up for nothing but a couple of taps from your finger. No word on how long this will last, so you might want to do those little taps as soon as you can.
On the off-chance you’ve missed out on what Monument Valley is, let me fill you in. It’s a gorgeous romp through simple puzzles and twisty stages that force you to think about perspective in an abstract way. Yes, it’s a little on the short side, and it’s pretty easy for the most part. It’s still absolutely worth experiencing, however. If you want more reasons to spend zero dollars on it, you can check out my extensive review or read what Eli Hodapp had to say about it when we selected it as the first runner-up for our 2014 Game Of The Year award.
If you try the game out and find it to your liking, you might want to toss ustwo $1.99 and pick up the Forgotten Shores expansion, a set of stages that doubles the length of the game and offers slightly increased difficulty. I also wrote a review of that expansion you can check out if you’d like. Again, it’s not clear at this point why the game has gone free or for exactly how long it will stay that way, so don’t sleep on it too long if you want to save yourself the $3.99 it normally sells for.
