We've been hotly anticipating Nimblebit's follow-up to their massively popular Tiny Tower [Free], called Pocket Planes, since it was first unveiled at GDC in March. We took a close look at its Flight Crew Challenges in a hands-on preview last month, and we dug deep into the Nimblebit way of making games free-to-play the right way in an in-depth article earlier this month. Finally, we talked about our early impressions of the game on our podcast a couple of weeks back. See? Told you we're hotly anticipating it.

Today, Nimblebit has released the first trailer for Pocket Planes giving everybody their first glimpse at the game in action.

As you can see from the video, and what we've known for a while now, is that Pocket Planes is looking to be a fantastic follow-up to Tiny Tower. It's really been the current obsession around the TouchArcade headquarters since we've had our hands all over early versions, and we can't wait for everyone else to get their hands on the game too. Unfortunately, Pocket Planes still doesn't have a firm release date but it's certainly close on the horizon, and once we find out when it hits for sure we'll be letting you know.

    Oh wow, I can't wait!

  • Kafu

Great, as always 😉 Seems more complex than usual "management" games, I'm curious to see it in action.

    Looks fun.

I see Bucharest and Jerusalem, but no Budapest, what a racism....

I demand that every Nimblebit's game from now on has bitizens in it. I swear, nothing has been recently created with less pixels and more character. . . .

  • Ghostz

Such a quaint little video. 🙂

So excited for this game. Tiny Tower stole my life in the best possible way and I want that feeling again. I'm just praying that it will run on my old iPhone 3G like the rest of the Nimblebit games. It seems like nearly every game, even some graphically simple ones, are no longer compatible with my phone. Then again, I probably should just get around to upgrading. lol

  • volkan

    Thats an awesome world map!

  • Das Falk

Why can't they release it right now? :O

  • othernine

So how long after release until Zynga release 'Dream Flights'? ;o)

    • mclifford82

About as long as it'll take the Nimblebit Army to go download the game and rate it one star without even playing it.

      • stormchild

That sounds like a plan I can get behind.

  • futuresgreen

So looking forward to this, Tiny Tower is one of the best games ever !

  • Noah

Tiny Tower was great, until you started getting 100+ floors. Then it became unmanageable due to the elevator. I stopped delivering passengers because it took way too long even with the best upgrade.

What does Tiny Plane bring to the table that's new?

      Pocket Planes*

it's kind of risky releasing a video like this before the game even ships.. It's really not going to take Zynga long to make a shameless clone - I've no doubt one is being worked on right now.. and this time Nimblebit won't have several months of user traction. I hope they get it to the app store for at least a few weeks before Zynga shows up.

    • stormchild

I, for one, refuse to touch any Zynga products. Especially ones that are blatant ripoffs of other games. I suspect I'm not alone on this.

  • Soul_of_Wit

I'm such a sucker for transpo games. Bring it on.

  • stormchild

I'm hoping this time they leverage iCloud to keep the game in sync between iPhone and iPad. It's kinda sad that I can no longer play Tiny Tower on my phone after transferring it to my iPad. (Well, I could just keep deleting the entire app and reinstalling it every time I want to switch devices…but, no. That's dumb.)

    I have been seen
unique Tiny Tower Game trailer which is fantastic looking and designs. Such,
as I am truly waiting for this game.
