It seems that even though Apple rejected Yoot Saito's first attempt at an App Store game for being "unpleasant", Saito is ready for another go, but this time for the iPad. According to sketchy information from his blog in poorly machine translated Japanese, it appears The Tower iPad is coming soon.

Yoot Saito is Japanese game designer known for innovative game design. His first major game was SimTower and it's sequel Yoot Tower/The Tower II which was later remade for Gameboy Advance, and the Nintendo DS. Wikipedia describes the original SimTower:

SimTower: The Vertical Empire is a construction and management simulation computer game developed by OPeNBooK Co., Ltd. and published by Maxis for the Microsoft Windows and Mac OS 7 operating systems. It was released in November 1994 in the United States. The game allows players to build and manage a tower and decide what facilities to place in it, in order to ultimately build a five-star tower. Random events take place during play, such as terrorist acts that the player must respond to immediately.

Here's a video for The Tower DS (in Japanese):

And that's all we know so far. We'll keep an eye out for it, and hopefully we'll see an international (not just Japan) release.

Cool! Showing my age here but I can remember playing sim tower on my old pentium 1 based machine. I've probably still got the discs around here somewhere. This will be an instabuy.

Yeah, I remember playing this on my old Performa 630CD. I probably won't have an iPad to play with for quite a while and I'm only getting an iPod Touch when I get a new laptop in a couple of weeks but I do hope that he releases Tower, in English, to the iPod Touch/iPhone.

And I hope MAYBE he'll release it for Android too. We can hope. ;-P

Now THAT'S a memory! I wrote the manual for SimTower when I worked at Maxis, and I had a lot of fun (though those elevator noises could get to you after a while). Glad to hear that Yoot's pushing the game into this century.

Especially when you consider people ignored the GBA release,DS release and the near cost free DSiWare edition.

  • snowy2004

I shall echo the hopes of others and beg for an iPhone/iPod touch version.

  • Blades

Dang....I played the crap out of this game growing up. All on a 386DX 33mhz. Lol...

Had a lot of fun with it. Sure hope it comes out for the Iphone/Touch as well.

If you'd put a link to the Japanese blog post in your blog post people who can read (or in my case, kind of read) Japanese might be able to help you clarify your info.

  • Ian

that's great and all but what i really want from Yoot Saito is Seaman on my iPhone. That would rock!!

  • Greg

If this is anything like the SimTower PC game it will be a day one buy. I spent too many hours as a kid playing this. Now just give me Roller Coaster Tycoon and I will be happy.
