NOVA Launches December 17th, New Video

Gameloft's NOVA is probably the most widely anticipated game at the moment. After first being announced in September, excitement has been high for this Halo-like first person shooter.

Gameloft released an impressive new trailer today and finally gave us a release date.

NOVA will launch on December 17th. In related news, Gameloft also released a new GT Racing trailer showing even more in-game footage. See our hands on preview for other early details.

    Personally I think it's great how close these character, vehicle, and environment designs come to Halo. If GL tried this on the consoles, they'd probably have a lawsuit from Microsoft, but since MS has done next to nothing on the iPhone, they'll get left alone. Brilliant.

Wow! A bit of a rip-off, but more variety in environments than real Halo. (I only played Halo 1.) If Bungie made the real thing for iPhone that would be great, but there’s no such thing. So I’m definitely looking forward to this.

Gameloft cannot debut NOVA at 9.99. If they do, they will undermine NOVA's online component and, by doing so, will severely hamper the possibility of generating a successful online community. Basically, GL will be cutting of their nose to spite their face. I can understand selling this at 9.99. Really, I can. But if that's the plan, then they should have never developed an online component to NOVA in the first place. There will not be nearly enough people online, if the game is $10. We'll all be sitting in empty online lobbies, waiting and praying for someone else to show up.

As far as online goes, people need to stop trying to compare MC:S to Eliminate and wondering why Eliminate works so much better. Eliminate runs through dedicated servers. MC:S has no servers. Eliminate's online community has to pay ultimately for the upkeep of those servers, hence the whole wait for energy cells to recharge component. MC:S is free to play online, for everybody. Their is no servers, so we, as customers, don't have to pay the same premium rates. In order for MC:S or NOVA to have dedicated servers, we, as consumers, would have to pay for them.

And I can confirm that the patch released yesterday did repair a significant portion of MC:S online experience. I can host public games now, have 3 others join, and play matches to their conclusion with no lagging, no buggy behaviors, and no disconnects. If I tried to host a game before the patch, no one could ever connect to my match.

I only bring this up because yes, NOVA will almost certainly run on a similar system, because bypassing the need for servers keeps the cost down, and because people have been complaining that the MC:S update did nothing. Trust me, it absolutely stabilized the gameplay. However, Gameloft's whole system likely disqualifies certain types of routers. No update is likely to change that fact. Which is unfortunate, granted, but the cost of maintaining those dedicated Eliminate servers is likely high. Very, very high

    I would love Gameloft if they'd at least come up with their own original ideas from time to time, and truly supported their games (fixed major bugs/Added additional content, even if we had to pay for it,) but since they don't really do either, Gameloft is just another app development company, though they do sometimes come out with games that I'd like to see for the iPod touch/iPhone. Another issue that I have is that they do nothing but pump out game after game- by now I think it's been upwards of one per week. That means that they don't have any time for quality assurance and refinement. I'll still download a game or two of theirs from time to time, but I can't stand their tactics.

The warthog is a nice touch, but there is no indication that you can actually drive it. Seems similiar to the gunner scene in MC:S. In fact, it looks frighteningly similiar. That level in MC is frustrating.

  Funny, I passed that level in only one try ( right away ) with difficulty set to extreme. I guess I'm a pro = just kidding !

the warthog, magnum pistol, the rifle, shotgun..I am disappointed in this...the red monster has two *toes* on its feet, like the elites, the architecture and scenery has a lot of Halo theme in it as well!..."join the fight"? sounds like "finnish the fight"...Gameloft, no thx!- doesn't look like there is much of a story behind it...

They are not stealing resources or doing sly ports they are recreating the best and most popular console gaming experiences and bringing familiar high quality entertaining releases to the platform for the benefit us all and hopefully making a huge profit doing it so. More power to them.
