atv2XL Games announced their upcoming 2XL ATV racing game. The new game promises:

  • 16 unique ATV Supercross and Outdoor Nationals tracks
  • 2 Freestyle levels
  • Up to 16 unique stunts
  • Massive career mode and achievement system
  • Freestyle mode with advanced scoring system
  • Multiplayer mode
  • Adjustable level of difficulty

Their teaser video looks particularly impressive:

2XL Games were also the creators of 2XL Supercross which we felt was visually stunning, but ultimately a bit shallow. Specifically, a lack of career mode kept us from really falling for their debut title. Based on the spec sheet, it seems they have added a career mode in their upcoming release.

The game is expected to be released this month.

Definitely buying based on my pleasant experience with 2XL Supercross which is one of my fav games, lack of career mode notwithstanding. :)

    • AttackOfThePwned

I wish they would update Supercross with a career mode or even better online multiplayer. I'd still be playing it today if they would have done that...

Hmm, how about some "gameplay", rather then "in game" footage...

      Thats what I was thinking!

I like how the first part of this writeup says " The new game promises..." because those of us who bought 2XL Supercross and got stuck without an update know how good these developers are at keeping their promises.

    • rich_952000

Very much agreed. I can "promise" with some authority that because of my unpleasant experience with 2XL Motocross and the developer lying, I'll never buy their products again.

I emailed then concerning what I consider poor controls IMO and they couldn't even respond to a paying customer; Shit game, shit developers. I hope the new game flops for you 2XL!

      • Raoupp

        Drama queen.

    • Scott

If you check the Supercross thread you will see me asking them that it seemed like you weren't going to update this game and work on a new one...

They replied , "no we 100% want to support this (supercross ) game with updates and bug fixes".

There has been no updates to Supercross and now a new game comes. And I dont think they've posted since on TA.

Actually, it isn't hardware expensive at all it will run on a 1gen with 30 fps (i think). The trees are just Faces that are looking at you all the time...

    • http://www.team-freienstein.de Tilmann

It's "extensive", not... you know?! And the trees are 3D. It's solid tech also used in some PSP games. Just a few polygons with partly transparent textures. The effect is there without wasting too much GPU power. Thing is, this looks horrible with higher resolutions but on your phone screen it gets the job done.

Doesn't that soundtrack sound like the same group that played during the opening credits of James Bond's Casino Royale (Daniel Craig's version)? Probably not the same, but the similarity is there.

Looks pretty cool to me but having been bitten by rather shallow gameplay last time, I'll wait for impressions and even then consider other racing games above this one -- it's not like we're short of decent ones these days...

Slightly off-topic, I recommend Motorstorm: Arctic Edge on PSP to those of you with that portable ... rock solid. Slightly downscaled graphics but they still look damn good, fluid animation, all the great gameplay of the first 2 in the series on the PS3.

Supercross was a tech demo with no game attached, so this may be better. I hope they allow custom sountracks though, as the 'music' in that promo video sounded painful in the extreme.

This looks awesome, instant buy for me. I really liked the 1st 1, it was a fun game that played well with awesome graphics. This looks like it ups all of those, plus has outside tracks and a freestyle mode with 16 stunts to perform! Their website also details a career mode, achievements and MULTIPLAYER!

      ...
Is it just me or does the above comment sound like it came from 2XL marketing? I mean, with 15 comments on how terrible people's impressions were of the first game, this single glowing review seems a tad suspicious.

In any event, I've never played the first one. But just looking at this video, I got very bored of it. It just doesn't invoke any sense of speed or excitement (then again, the only games to have ever managed that are F-Zero and Excite Truck... every other racing game I've ever tried just felt slow and dull.) Also, the camera motions seem very... unnatural to say the least.

      • Moroboshi

I think you may be right. It's not unusual for publishers to plant shills in online communities to try and stir up interest.

      • Greg

I think you might be right about the plant, but I didn't find Supercross terrible. I only played the light version, but it was decent, though it's telling that I wasn't convinced enough to buy the full version. This one does look like a big improvement. And I actually do get a sense of speed from the massive air they're getting. But still, I'll wait for a lite version before I buy this.

      • Spongebob

Nizy is not from 2XL. He posts regularly on the forum.

Anyway, why don't you try the the lite version of the game and decide for yourself instead of relying on the opinion of few disgruntled but very vocal users? Like I said above, I for one loved it and still play it regularly. 2XL Supercross was released about 7 months (?) ago and I think it still has one of the best graphics and responsive controls in any racing game in the app store.

Not sure what the other guy was complaining about "bad controls." This game handles perfectly to me. The issues most users have with the game are lack of career mode, tricks and free roam.

      • nizy

I have nothing to do with 2XL other than being someone who got their game and enjoyed it. Oh and as I liked it I also checked out their website (which is linked in the IGN article) and saw some extra details not really highlighted by Arn, so posted a link to it.

And as Spongebob points out, most of those complaints are about the lack of a career mode, stunts & freestyle. All I was pointing out was that the core gameplay in Super cross was very good (and generally well received) and that this new game seems to deliver all of the things those people complained about in that game.

I only buy games now if it's worth the asking price without the expectations of an update and so far this game looks good!

I have to admit, I was bitten pretty badly by the previous game. If you look at the app description page it STILL falsely advertises an online leaderboard. And I still can't believe they never added a career mode or any new content. That being said, it was still one of my favorite games ever released for the iDevices. I can't help but be excited for this one after seeing that trailer and reading that preview. I favor atvs to dirt bikes too. I know this will be a damn fun game.

I only played the lite version of supercross and thought it just was not my taste. But anyway it should be worth the little money even without a career mode included. It is not ok for developers making false claims about future updates anyway but that sort of thing (not to say f...) happens all the time. I would be realy concerned if the price was 20 bucks or more. But come on gals n' guys. This is penny arcade. It is about small money and so it is also only about minor issues you are complaining about. Justbplay your games and be nice, would you please. Think they will put up a lite version again and everybody gets the chance to make up his/her mind if it is worth a Big Mac menu or so. At least you won't get fat on playing poor games, will you?

I don't know what the technical term for it is either, but our paper-pulp yielding amigos really are just 'faces' that look at u. If u look at them during, 'gameplay' they are perpetually flashing the same pair of proverbial conkers right b4 ur blushing face, irrespective of perspective. Presumably as a means of poly reduction to run on older hardware...
Which makes me hope that those of us with 3gs hardware will get some sort of performance boost aside from the usual frame rate increase and zippier boot up times. How's about some sizzling particle effects, or even a perfectly rendered Cuckcoo called Dave that lives in one of those weird trees?

And multiplayer- ONLINE WITH VOICE CHAT please!!
