EA Scrabble on Sale for 20% Off

EA is starting to experiment more with price flexibility by putting Scrabble [App Store] on sale for $7.99. The app is normally priced at $9.99 but is on sale for “a limited time.” EA had similarly dropped Tetris from $9.99 to $7.99 (though on a permanent basis).

The most recent Scrabble update has introduced Wi-Fi networking as well as improved game stability and sound quality.

Scrabble is popular word game in which players form words from individual lettered tiles. Words are formed in horizontal or vertical rows with scoring based on which letters are used.

The iPhone version of Scrabble has been reasonably well reviewed, so the discounted price and Wi-Fi option may provide some additional incentive for readers to make the jump.

The game is not out, outside of the american store?

  2. arn Says:

@anastacio, sorry, EA has some weird licensing restrictions it seems.

  3. Barnsey Says:

@arn, They said that about Tetris but that was recently released in the UK, so maybe this will eventually do the same.

  4. Dudehuge Says:

Finally EA is realizing that their classic apps are overpriced. Give me a PSP like version of Mirror’s Edge made for the iPhone and I’ll pay $35 in a heartbeat.

  5. Gregz0r Says:

If they made their games half price (from $9.99), I’m sure they’d sell more in the long haul.
Subconsciously, people are more inclined to purchase, when they know that something has been reduced to “half the price”.

What’s with it only being available in the US? That blows! So many goodies in the US iTunes store - AUS is crap.

  7. Marko Says:

I agree it SUCKS that this game is only available in the U.S. How f*cking stupid is that???

  8. Carlos Says:

Well, then I suggest developers outside the US to start making games. Lot of work goes into distributing games outside the US. Developers need to test the waters first as well to see if the game has a potential to sell.

In short, stop attacking US developers and start making your own games.

    Carlos,

I’m interested, do you know what the procedure is for releasing iPhone apps in various territories? How much is dealt with by the app store? Is it a matter of ticking checkboxes or is it not so simple?

Agreed. Apple and others have set a water mark of 4.99. Great games at that price. I know what goes into it but the market is saying 4.99
