Ironhide Game Studio is known for their excellent Kingdom Rush tower defense series, and while they do have a new Kingdom Rush game in the works, they haven’t forgotten about their similarly excellent real-time strategy spinoff Iron Marines ($2.99). As we learned earlier this month the developers have been working on an entirely new planet for Iron Marines called Borealis which they were planning on releasing September 27th. I’m looking at the calendar right now and it says September 26th but, ehhhhhh close enough, right? The big Borealis update is now available in the App Store, and you can get a glimpse of the new icy planet in the trailer below.

If you’re somehow not hip to the whole Iron Marines thing, it first launched just over a year ago and offered Ironhide’s wonderful brand of tower defense gaming but with a heavy real-time strategy spin. And of course it was all wrapped up in the fantastic art style and high level of polish we’ve come to associate with Ironhide. We loved the game in our original review and picked it as our Game of the Week when it released, and just shy of two months from that a big update was released that featured new missions and new premium heroes. In addition to Borealis, today’s update also features 3 new premium heroes, and as with the Kingdom Rush games these optional heroes are available for those who want to add additional ways to play and aren’t required at all to enjoy the complete base game.
