While the Super Mario Run (Free) announcement came out of the blue for most of us, apparently the game has been in the works even before Nintendo started working on Miitomo (Free). Apple came knocking on Nintendo’s door to inquire how the two could work together, and that’s where talks about Super Mario Run came about. After seeing the game during Apple’s keynote, we pretty much figured out that it was not a recent development, but it’s surprising that no information about that game leaked during all these months. Despite the huge excitement the game has created and despite everyone saying it’s going to make crazy money for Nintendo, the company reiterated that it’s not going to turn into a mobile company; hardware is still where Nintendo sees itself.
As for the Android release date (or the lack of one), Shigeru Miyamoto said that because there are so many Android devices out there, it’s taking extra time to engineer the game to work across all of them. It’s coming then, but we still don’t know when. I wonder if Apple asked for a timed exclusive as part of the deal; I wouldn’t be surprised.
