Best iPhone and iPad Games of the Week: 8/8/14 - 'Dragon Quest IV' and 'Astro Duel'

We've been doing the monthly best game roundups for quite a while, where we pile together all the 5 and 4.5 star games in to one massive post. I figured it's 2014, so why not try something new and do these kind of roundups weekly instead of monthly. The comments section for the monthly posts are usually a bit of a mess with people discussing so many games, so maybe by doing more of that style of article focused on fewer games will result in a better discussion? Maybe?..

Best iPhone and iPad Games of July 2014

It's the first of August, and it's a perfect time to look back at some of the absolutely amazing games that were released in July. Unbelievably great ports, totally original games no one expected, and more. These are the sorts of things that make being an iOS gamer awesome...

Best iPhone and iPad Games of April 2014

If there was one word to sum up the games we reviewed in April it'd just be wow. Seven five star games in all, and I'd say each one is an absolute must have. Additionally, I think it's pretty safe to say the slow start to 2014 is now officially over...

Best iPhone and iPad Games of March 2014

April is shaping up to be an amazing month for iOS gaming, but March was really awesome and filled with games we'd been anticipating forever as well as a few surprises. March was host to GDC, so things sort of slowed down during that time, but, whatever. There are still were ton of great games to check out regardless...

Best iPhone and iPad Games of February 2014

Even though February is the shortest month of the year, it sure was home to some big iOS game releases. Final Fantasy VI after what feels like years of waiting, an Eliss re-release and tons more were among our best rated games of the month. Again, these are not necessarily games that were released in February, but rather, merely the best games we reviewed in February. Also, our scoring system isn't representative of any traditional metric where you combine scores of graphics, sound, fun-factor, replayability, and other elements. Rather, we just rate games based on how much we recommend you download them...

We're turning over the first page of our Angry Birds 2014 Calendar (I actually had the 2013 iteration of this!) to the month of February, which means it's time to round up all the reviews we posted in January. Again, these are not necessarily games that were released in January, but rather, merely the best games we reviewed in January. Also, our scoring system isn't representative of any traditional measure like graphics, sound, fun-factor, replayability, or anything like that. Rather, we just rate games based on how much we recommend you download them...

Best iPhone and iPad Games of 2013

Yesterday we announced that Ridiculous Fishing [$2.99] scored our Game of the Year pick, but there's loads of great games where that came from. Last year we broke out all of these games into multiple posts spanning all sorts of genres, even weird ones...

Best Free iPhone and iPad Games of 2013

If you haven't noticed, free to play games have hit critical mass on the App Store. There's definitely a load of bad ones that put monetization first while gameplay takes the back seat, but that certainly isn't the case for all of them...

TouchArcade Game of the Year 2013: 'Ridiculous Fishing'

2013 is coming to a close, and this has been a monumental year for iOS gamers. We got iOS 7, redesigned iPads, finally a Retina Display on the iPad mini, faster iPhones, Apple-blessed physical controllers, and tons more. As of today, the App Store has had 83,880 games released this year, and of those games we reviewed 521 of them. Now, we distill that down further to a single game of the year, one of 83,880...

Ridiculous Fishing [$2.99], a game surrounded with cloning drama, got a much-deserved nod from Apple today in the form of the iPhone Game of the Year nomination as part of their Best of 2013 feature. If for some insane reason you still haven't downloaded Ridiculous Fishing, I'm not sure the evidence to do so could get any stronger. We gave it five stars in our review, and it's still high on the list of my personal favorite iPhone games, even months after its release...

Here's Some of The Best Games For Your New iPad Air

Today is the day, the iPad Air is upon us. Just like all the early reviews have said, initial reactions on the iPad Air seem to be filled with everyone incredibly happy with the device. The speed increase, the weight reduction, and the smaller footprint all combine to make for a really awesome improvement over the iPad 4... A device which arguably didn't even need that much improving...

Best iOS Games - August 2013: 'Asphalt 8', 'Mikey Hooks', and 'Plants vs. Zombies 2'

Hey everybody, here's the best games we reviewed in the month of August. Keep in mind you can view all of our 5 star and 4.5 star games via category sorting. Similarly, you can see all of these "best of" roundups by clicking the Best iPhone Games category. You'll find tons of good stuff in there, especially if you dig back into the archives a bit...

Well, it's Friday and our week of the best iOS games of 2012 is over. Looking back on all these posts, we saw an incredible amount of amazing games over the last year. No matter what genre(s) you prefer, we dug through everything the App Store had to offer and came up with the best of the best...

2012 had a lot of cool surprises and good games, as you've probably noticed. But not all of those good games could be neatly categorized. This post is for the weirdos, the games that straddled too many genre lines or are members of genres that have too few rad games to sufficiently flesh out a "best of" post. ..

So maybe the physical arcade is dead, but the spirit and experience of the arcade lives on in the App Store. It's a platform with a ton of simple titles with one goal: score a lot of points. It's also a platform rife with disposable games -- games that have kick, but allow you to walk away easily whenever the real world starts calling...
