I can't believe how quickly this year has flown by, as it seems like it wasn't even that long ago when we were obsessive over how to distill thousands of great games down into a Game of the Year, 25 best, and my personal ten favorites. But, here we are. This year I spent a lot of time getting involved in playing free to play games, and a lot of iOS ports of games I hadn't played before on other platforms. Here's ten games that I thought deserved an extra special nod somewhere in our year end coverage, oh and these are just in alphabetical order so don't try to divine any special meaning beyond that:..

Jared's Top Ten Games of 2014

It's that time of year where we reflect on all the games released in 2014 and pick out our personal favorites of the bunch. To be honest, I hate doing this. Every year there are so many great games released on iOS that's it's nearly impossible to whittle it down to just ten. Heck, it would be hard to whittle it down to fifty. At the same time, it's nice to have to really hunker down and put some serious thought into what were the real standouts this year. So hunker and whittle I did, and when all was said and done I ended up with eleven picks. It's supposed to be ten, but I'm going all punk rock this year and picking eleven, rules be damned! Also know that to avoid redundancy, I omitted a few picks from this list since they already appear on our Best Games of 2014 list or our Game of the Year post. There are so many other games I wished I could have included, and just because a certain game might not be on this list it doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the heck out of it. Without further ado, here's my list of the best ten eleven games of 2014...

Every year it seems as if the standard for what makes an iOS game great rises. That was certainly true for this year’s batch. What follows is a short list of some of my favorite games that were released this year. As always, the list is not exhaustive and tailors towards particular favorite tastes (namely RPGs), but there was at least one surprise in there for me that hit me relatively late this year...

Shaun's Top Ten Games Of 2014

Hello, gentle readers, I hope you're having a fine holiday, wherever you may be. It's that time of the year where we all get to change our calendars and reflect on the highlights of the 365 that passed, and for those of us into games, it's often a time of thinking back on our favorite games of the year. This year had plenty of great games, no matter what you were into. I was especially impressed at the increase in output from Asian developers, where a strong indie scene is starting to flourish. As I share my own picks with you, keep in mind that they represent my favorites from what I played during the year. There were so many great games this year, I didn't have a chance to play them all, so if there's a big, impressive favorite of yours missing from the list, odds are good that's why. Either that, or it's a terrible garbage game that you should be ashamed of liking. With that said, here are my favorites of 2014, in no particular order...

Carter's Top Ten Games of 2014

2014 was another great year for mobile gaming. People can lament all they want about free-to-play on mobile, but if you can't find enough great mobile games to play, you have far more free time than I do – and I live and breathe mobile games. While perhaps other years have been stronger, and there is some concern with regard to the viability of talented indie developers on mobile, there's still just too many great games. Plenty of worthy titles got left off my list, and I'm sure I'm excluding some great game that I didn't play or simply forgot about. So, in order, here's my top ten games of 2014:..

Best iPhone and iPad Games of the Week: 12/19/14 - 'Papers, Please' and 'Tales from the Borderlands'

Two games scored highly this week in our onslaught of reviews, and I'll go out on a limb and say that everyone should play these games on whatever platform they can. Papers, Please on iOS is iPad only, but it's also available on Mac/PC/Linux and should run on just about any computer out there. Tales from the Borderlands is just great, and like all Telltale games, the performance may be better on other platforms but there's just something about playing it with touch controls that makes it great...

Best iPhone and iPad Games of the Week: 12/5/14 - 'Checkpoint Champion' and 'Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath'

Two games got five star reviews this week, and in my opinion, they're both absolute must-haves. One is even free, so it makes things that much easier (although if you like it you should think about tipping your hat in the form of the single IAP unlock). Lots of great games were released this week, so next week's best games post should be pretty rad as well...

Best iPhone and iPad Games of the Week: 11/28/14 - 'Earn to Die 2', 'Joe Dever's Lone Wolf', 'Sunburn!', 'Vigil RPG', and Zengrams

The American holiday Thanksgiving and the American kinda-sorta holiday Black Friday really messed our week up this week. The iTunes release cycle was crazy (Which is why we've got two Out Now posts), new was almost non-existent, and most of the TouchArcade crew was either travelling to family or spending time with family. So, our review output was also odd. Our top rated games this week were all four star reviews. Here they are:..

Best iPhone and iPad Games of the Week: 11/14/14 - 'Candy Crush Soda Saga', 'Icewind Dale', 'Monument Valley' and More

OK so I know I always start these out with "Oh man you guys we reviewed so many good games this week," but it's REALLY TRUE this time. But, wait, does that make the other times... not true? Who the hell even knows, but you should download these games like yesterday...

Best iPhone and iPad Games of the Week: 10/31/14 - 'Ghost Blade', 'Sleep Attack TD', 'Super Glyph Quest' and 'Tilt to Live: Gauntlet's Revenge

Another solid week under our belts, friends. We've got a really great action game that uses swipe controls in a way that actually doesn't suck, a tower defense game that somehow manages to feel fresh, an awesome to a sequel to an already good puzzle game, and a spin-off of one of our favorite games ever? Sign me up. Here's the list of our best reviewed games this week:..

Best iPhone and iPad Game of the Week: 10/24/14 - 'Pixel Boat Rush'

This is a weird week for reviews this week. While we posted a lot of them, our highest scored game was only a 4.5... Which is still pretty great where I'm sitting. Be sure to hit up the links at the end of the post to find the other games we reviewed this week, or just mash the Top Reviews link at the top of every page to drill down further...

Best iPhone and iPad Games of the Week: 10/17/14 - 'Helix', 'Zombie Highway 2', 'Crimsonland HD' and 'Skullduggery'

As we're barreling towards the end of the year, it's no surprise we're posting so many great game reviews. It seems like everyone holds on to Q4 to release their best games, so I'm sure it'll only get better from here- Especially looking at what came out this week. Here's the highest scored game reviews we posted this week:..

Best iPhone and iPad Games of the Week: 10/3/14 - 'Turbo Dismount', 'Air Supply SOS', 'Tactics Maiden', and 'Valiant Hearts'

As we're barreling towards the end of the year, it's no surprise we're posting so many great game reviews. It seems like everyone holds on to Q4 to release their best games, so I'm sure it'll only get better from here- Especially looking at what came out this week. Here's the highest scored game reviews we posted this week:..

Best iPhone and iPad Games of the Week: 9/26/14 - 'Anomaly Defenders', 'Smarter Than You', 'Rapture - World Conquest', and 'WWE Supercard'

While there was one lonely game in this roundup last week (which doesn't even really make it a roundup) this week we've got four great games that everyone needs to try. Better yet, two of them won't even cost you any money to try out. Additionally, we're entering Q4 which is where all the huge releases seem to be, so strap in for what's likely going to be even more great weeks like this...

This week we're dropping the "s" from the title as we only reviewed one really great game this week. But, this was a week filled with iPhone news, a major iOS release, new phones, and all the junk that comes with that so you can't really blame us with being a little preoccupied with stuff other than game reviews. Hopefully next week returns to normal, and we see more than a half dozen games get released. Fingers crossed, anyway...

Best iPhone and iPad Games of the Week: 9/12/14 - 'Goblin Sword', 'The Journey Down', 'Battle Riders', and 'Gemini Strike'

If all that happened this week was the release of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, that'd be pretty rad in itself. If all that happened was the unveiling of the Apple Watch, same story, would still have been a great week. The fact that we've got all that and great iPhone games? Well, that's just awesome...

Best iPhone and iPad Games of the Week: 9/5/14 - 'Mikey Boots' and 'Alone'

Another wild week of iOS game reviews this week, and the games that scored the highest were both titles that were highly anticipated by our community since we first caught wind of them. The Mikey games are a staple around here, especially since they were created on the TouchArcade forums. Somewhat similarly, Alone is something I've had my eye on since we first posted the trailer. There was a bunch of other stuff we reviewed this week, so be sure to check the other scores at the bottom of this post...

This week is lead by a surprisingly good game that I never would've expected to be as great as it turned out to be if I hadn't tried it. Dodo Master has a weird name and an icon that doesn't give you any idea what the game is about... But, that seems to be the way that most of the true App Store gems work out: Totally awesome games that you never expect...

Best iPhone and iPad Games of the Week: 8/22/14 - 'Hearthstone' Curse of Naxxramas, ' Catchup', 'Rules!' and 'Star Realms'

We're going strong this week with some absolutely amazing games that you need to download and play over the weekend if you don't already have them on your device. This list has three new games, and with the final wing of the Hearthstone expansion unlocked, it made sense to sit down and write a review for it, even if all the people who are interested already have it...

Best iPhone and iPad Games of the Week: 8/15/14 - 'Joe Dever's Lone Wolf', 'Phoenix Wright', and 'Sentinel 4'

Well this is kind of awkward. Last week when we came up with the idea of doing these roundups weekly, no one really threw out the idea of what happens when we don't have any really high review scores that week. This week, the highest score we gave our was four stars, so, those are our best games of the week. It's a little weird, I guess, but, if there's one word I'd use to describe the App Store in general it'd probably be "Weird."..
