Bulkypix Joins In On The Price Drop Party: ‘Pix’n Love Rush DX’ and ‘Snake Galaxy HD’ Now 99¢

TouchArcade Rating:

Alright, so while two semi-obscure iPad-specific versions of existing iPhone games dropping to 99¢ might not normally be something we’d cover here, this gives me the perfect opportunity to make my demands to Bulkypix public. Win/win, right? First things first, Pix’n Love Rush DX [99¢ and Snake Galaxy HD [99¢] both dropped to a buck. Snake Galaxy is a fun take on the classic Snake formula, although if it’s too modern for your tastes, there’s always Snake 97.

Pix’n Love Rush DX is the real star of this sale. We seriously gushed over the game in our review for the iPhone version, and the game has since turned into one of the staples on my phone (and iPad) right up there with the classics like Canabalt [$2.99] and Angry Birds [99¢]. The review I just linked goes into the nitty-gritty of how it all works, but in a nutshell Pix’n Love Rush is a action-centric platformer kind of game that is absolutely dripping with retro stylings. In fact, as you play the game and score higher combos the graphics evolve through the history of retro consoles. Check out some of the iPhone gameplay:

Video by AppBank

The iPad DX version kicks things up another notch by adding a variety of skins to the controls, which are similarly reminiscent of retro consoles. The issue with all this is, as great of a game as Pix’n Love Rush and DX is, you eventually seem to reach a point in both versions of the game where things are just happening too quickly to be able to effectively use the virtual controls. When I die in the game, I rarely feel like I actively made a mistake, and instead it just seems that in a frantic attempt to collect pluses, kill bats, and avoid minuses my thumbs just barely drifted off the virtual controls. This is particularly pronounced in the larger Pix’n Love Rush DX.

…Which brings me to my entirely demanding list of demands. iCade Support. Now that we’ve got more iCade units distributed across the TouchArcade family, it’s becoming more and more clear just how much more iCade support can add to a game like Pix’n Love Rush DX. If this game had iCade support, I’d never leave the house.

Make it happen, Bulkypix.

When I first saw there was a multiplayer update I was hoping gameloft finally added the ability to play against Facebook friends (the way EA did it with scrabble)

      Such a disappointment :(

      1. Yrogerg212

        That would be very cool!

    2. Chris

Gameloft's been getting worse and worse lately... first Silent Ops, then Let's Golf 3, and now this.

      1. diemer

You make it sound as if Gameloft was good in the first place.

        1. TheEvilNoob

Idk considering we even got one update from them impresses me a little. I am just tired of people complaining about stupid things like ads *rolls eyes*

    3. Guest

I would not mind it if they did not let the IAP affect multiplayer, but since they did, it really messed up the game. I played UNO quite a bit, and hope they fix it just for the sake of what was a pretty awesome card game multiplayer experience.

    4. SaintCurmudgeon

You show too much confidence in EA or Gameloft.  EA has never been great in their iOS multiplayer games.  Gameloft has shown how bad their judgement can be in multiplayer/gameplay with their release of Let's Golf 3.

    5. TheEvilNoob

Anyone who is complaining about anything other then the bugs is a baby. Oh no they wiped the points!!! Who cares?!? Its not like you were going to reach the top anyway. Play the game to have fun.

Bonus cards? Poor babies. Just turn it off... Wow that was so hard? They aren't even that great. I can only think of a couple times that they have helped at all....

Wow seriously.... We are complaining about ads? I completely understand! I mean imagine if ads got so out of control that they appeared on tv and in movies and *gulp* on the internet! (sarcasm if you didn't catch that yet). You see ads every single day and now it is a problem?!? You guys are rediculous. I can see complaining about bugs, but you guys are being picky like 12 year olds with "bad graphics".

      1. ukdavo

Game updates normally include bugfixes & enhancements - sneaking in ads after you've purchased a game smacks of greed. It's 'rediculous'. If the ads were there from the start then perhaps some customers would've chosen not to have purchased the app.

      2. Tikicobra

Ads are annoying and intrusive. To add them in in an update is ridiculously greedy. Stop being a sarcastic ass.

        1. bradnicholson

I think the greater point here is that ads were never a part of the deal from the get-go. If they were, whatever. But this wasn't the case.

          1. TheEvilNoob

I wasn't aware that when you purchased an app you entered a "deal" with gameloft that said that they couldn't add ads to their game.... Next time post an actual arguement.

Now explain to me how you can see ads everyday of your life, but when it is in an app it is a crime?

Lastly: awwww how cute you people can swear. You guys make me laugh.

            1. Yrogerg212

I wouldn't say you enter into a deal, but you buy the app based on the features it offers when you originally get it. Remember, sometimes the difference between a paid version and a free version is ADS... The argument here is that the people that gave Gameloft their money wouldn't have done so if ads were included in the paid app.

            2. Tikicobra

When I pay money for a full game I don't expect ads. To not have them and then add them is completely uncool. We may not have entered a "deal," but that doesn't make it okay for them to randomly decide to get a bit of extra cash by adding ads in amidst a large update like sneaky bastards.

            3. Blueknight1st

              F off corporate kiss ass.

            4. Hanerlend

TheEvilNoob, or should I say TheEvilTroll, there's no rule that Gameloft cannot add ads to their game after you purchased it. There's also no rule that I cannot give them 1 star and a bad review when they do. There is no rule that I cannot choose not to buy a game from them next time. Just like there's no rule that you cannot complain because you don't like that I am complaining.

              1. TheEvilNoob

At least one person has a brain...

Thank you for finally giving a decent arguement (more like a solution). In response to it: lol i was not complaining. I was telling them to shut up. Theres a big difference. Both make idiots (like blueknight) rage because i disagree with them though.

Now i am still waiting for an answer to my question: you see ads every single day why is it so horrible in an app when its fine in everything else. Maybe you can answer that question hanerlend since unlike everyone else you can give a decent arguement and not take the pathetically obvious troll bait (no this isn't bait but i left one earlier in the conversation and all the idiots dove right on it).

*puts on flaming suit* take your best shot. Unlike you i don't take a forum about a game so seriously. You guys are pathetic lol.

                1. TheGuest

Here is your answer: Ads have traditionally been used to subsidize what is a free experience to the user. The TV commercial model is the easiest example. Over the air broadcasting is free, so the content providers (ABC, CBS, NBC, etc.) fund the content creation (tv shows) by charging companies to run ads on their channel. The user gets free but has to watch the ads. Cable changed this to some extent but deep within your cable bill, the formula is essentially the same (see HBO vs Basic Cable).

The App Store started down this very path - When you paid for something - no ads, when it was free - you had to view ads to subsidize the content creation. This is the same concept that products like Pandora and Spotify use. BUT when a company like Gameloft takes what was a paid game and inserts ads, they completely break this unspoken understanding and you are going to have some pissed off customers.

BTW, you like to call everyone an idiot while you hold yourself up high but we can see right through you...if tomorrow, you want to subject your self to ads even more than today, that's your right, but to call other people idiots because they think otherwise is a bit sophomoric.

                2. The Theory

TheGuest has a good post about the traditional relationship customers have with ads.

Here's a practical reason, too: Computer screen = big. TV screen = big.
Side of public transport bus as it drives by = big. iPod Touch screen =
                  itty-bitty living space.

With the iPod the developer basically has 2 options for using ads: those
little continuous banners at the top that continually refresh, or
                  something that interrupts game play.

Either option can be lived with if the consumer knows what they're
getting--usually a free app will be understood to have to endure ads.
But the bait-and-switch tactic really is terrible.

      3. Fociz

Are you borderline retarded? It's a valid question.

        1. TheEvilNoob

          Quite possibly.

Rofl i liked your comment XD

    6. Travissharpe555

I actually like the new update, the lobby looks pretty nice and the layout is good too me. And now 6 player UNO sounds more fun too me.

    7. worth

The ads seem to have dissapeared already, has anyone else noticed this?

    8. teknikal69

I'm done with Gameloft in honesty on all platforms, with them removing paid games from the store and releasing updates that turn full games into adware as far as I'm concerned they can't be trusted.
Who knows what other tricks they are pulling behind the scenes to make a quick buck or what other paid games their currently working on turning into adware.
      I won't miss them truthfully.

      1. poutini

Agreed. I realize that they won't miss my business since I'm not a sucker for freemium cash sinks, but I'm sure as hell not recommending another gameloft game to anyone. They've officially gone from cheap to skeezy.
