Apex Designs has written in to let us know that their Grand Theft Auto-like top-down title Payback will be making its way to the iTunes App Store early this month.
As you have probably guessed, the game is inspired by Grand Theft Auto, but every effort has been made to ensure that Payback beats that game in every way. The game engine supports texture mapping, environment mapping (reflections), distortion mapping, realistic shadows, alpha-channelling (lens flares, explosions and shockwaves), multi-channel 3D sound and spectacular physics. The game has also been translated into many languages.
Payback has been released for the Mac, Game Boy Advanced, Amiga, and GP2X mobile platform. The game is extremely similar to the original Grand Theft Auto, aside from a new camera angle and additional weapons.
Critics have found Payback to be worthy of some modest praise. As IGN tells it,
… it’s clear that Rockstar should simply halt development of the official Grand Theft Auto for the handheld … a graphically impressive, as well as enormously fun Grand Theft Auto-styled game.

sweet! Fallout touch would be AMAZING!!! I would buy it if it was a premium $20 title!!
While I do appreciate the idea of developers making in depth games for the iphone/ipod touch. I would much rather play a polished pick up and play game while away from home. They are quicker to get into (and won't be mad if i have to leave the app), usually take up lesser space, puts less battery drain on my iphone, and most importantly won't take FOREVER to backup my iphone because the app isn't 100+ megs!!!
But if i do anticipate having some downtime while away from home, then I'll carry my ds with me :)

Hm, Fallout would actually be a really nice iphone game, not as a shooter, but with the V.A.T.S game-system.
yea the vats would be sick, I think oblivion would be hard to pull off, but I simple, watered down version of fallout would be perfect for $20, but certainly not something like tap and shoot like metal gear solid
Don't worry about app backups: it doesn't have to back the whole thing up each time. I have some large games and my backups are still near-instant. (Not so when iPhone 2.0 first came out, though!)
Yeah app backups are a lot smoother now but have you ever tried restoring an iphone with a large backup file? I'm assuming most people only do it when their iphone crashes or isn't functioning properly but I always do it at least once a month to make sure there isn't any unwanted programs running in the background killing the battery. I had this issue about 2 months ago and it took me forever to figure out why my battery was only getting a few hours of standby time!!
Oh my lord Fallout or Elder Scrolls would be the best iPhone game ever for me.

I wonder - A game like Fallout for the iPhone would have too complex controls to get accustomed to. Especially after playing Brothers in Arms, and getting frustrated with the really bad controls, I don't think Fallout for iPhone can be any better.
Forget about Fallout, just because _that's_ the franchise that Bethesda was recently working on doesn't mean that they wanna keep going at it.
I myself would love to see a new chapter in the TES Travel series and that's what I'm thinking will happen :)

ok, Fallout for the ipod touch, sounds like fun, since i just bought it for my xbox 360, just make the graphics on it like 3d world, or better. im going to buy fallout touch if it isnt as disappointing as lego batman! make it like the xbox 360 version, free roam and talk to other people, and a good story!

actually, both fallout 1,2and even fallout tactics are perfect for a touch screen ipod ;)
The new Fallout doesnt lend itself well to the touch. But Both Fallout 1 and 2 are turnbased with overhead views. I would pay for both of them just being ported over with thier current content.
OMG... FALLOUT 1 or 2 will be perfect... the best post nuclear role plazong game comes to iphone-ipodtouch...
I'm guessing it'll be one of the Elderscrolls Travels games, though and isometric Fallout would be great.
A port of the first two Fallout games would be wonderful!
