    Alléchant!!! <3

  2. mimiju

    I mean... definately exciting!!!

  3. Marcus

Those screenshots are really good in terms of graphics! I hope the gameplay can live up to it. Although, i DO have too many racers already...

  4. Capone

Reminds me of Nintendo's F-Zero X, which is available as VC-Title for the Wii console.

  5. Porsupah

Fantastic! I'm not huge on racers, generally, but that's a specific type I actually enjoy. Hopefully the soundtrack will live up to the mood of the game, even if I doubt they'd have the budget to commission folks like FSOL or Prodigy. But then, there's a wealth of musical talent out there..

  6. henr1kk

It sure looks like a F-Zero clone but that's not really a bad thing seeing as I played almost all F-Zero games and loved them.
I'll be keeping an eye on this.

I really hope they've implemented a touch control system like Snail Mail - there are times and places where tilt control is unpractical.

  8. Capone

Yeah, the touch control system of Snail Mail works really fine - you even don't want to use any other system, like buttons, d-pad or tilt control.

Um, the photos and gameplay make it look like an early beta of Wipeout.

I mean, a LOT like Wipeout.

In fact, if I didn't know better, I'd say this was Wipeout.

Slightly disappointing in the lack of innovation. They should come talk to me about that :)

  10. Nagromme

Those screenshots are square--so I'm assuming they're not the shots submitted to the app store, but rather images of some earlier version on another phone.

  11. PawBroon

    Pictures are NOT square.
Click one to see for yourself.
    ;*)
And it's true that it's so much like WipeOut that I'll be buying this one upon release.

  12. Carlos Alberto

I just hope it'll be just smooth as Snail Mail.

    @Lost:
    Wow. Thanks for this link.
Seems to be a very polished game!
Like the smooth framerate and the sounds (gliders and weapons).
As a lover of the WipeOut series, I already count the days!! :)

  14. mikeadams

i like the orange distance fog alot. looks like youre racing on mars.

  15. Lost

@ your personal robot : thanks, I'm counting too! ^_^

  16. TKO

Wow. Just watched the YouTube video of it. Thanks for posting that Lost. Looks awesome. I want it. ..Agreed with mikeadams: that distance fog effect is pretty darned nice.

Definitely looks more F-Zero than WipeOut as far as ships and tracks are concerned, but the weaponry system feels more aggressive (more like WipeOut) to me. About time a good ship-racer turned up. We've got plenty of car racers, a good motorcycle one, a good powerboat one too. That's just about enough to keep me happy. (Tho a Waverace clone would be nice.) :)

you guys realize that the video is linked from the article itself too?

  18. TKO

You're assuming we hit this discussion from the article arn. :)

I like those animating clouds. They definitely add something to the look. Makes it harder to mask the limited draw-distance, but it's a small sacrifice to make for added awesomeness. ;)

$5 for 5 stages? i think il pass on this one

  20. arn

so, this was a hard game to review. I actually liked the game, and thought as an overall package it was nice, and enjoyed the shooter aspect of it more than I have any other side-scrolling shooter on the iPhone. So, I can see some people really loving the game.

But for overall value, it falls short, and there are a few people on the forums who were very much underwhelmed.

It's possible to play with your own mp3 from your library?

  22. Lunchbox

fair enough then i didnt mean to offend you, il give it a chance

  23. joni

i play it...not good...no fire or Missiles its a tap game missing Explosions
the sound is ok but you hear it only for a second...

I will explain... when you kill one thing you get a red ball When you take it
the volume gos up for a second...There is no purpose

  24. Whitecloak

I thought that was a very fair review, Arn.

  25. Funambulist

I'm a casual gamer and have no experience with musical shooters such as Rez but I must say that I like the game and am happy that I bought it. Thanks for the initial post that the game was on its way and the review Arn!

  26. Dave_b

Seriously, could you stop pimping Rolando in the neutral space on the sides of the screen? A lot or people (well, me) use that to initiate the the scroll function in Firefox with the middle mouse button. Now when I try to do that it opens the iTunes Rolando page. Annoying. I mean, it makes sense up the top of the page where the Rolando graphic is, but down here where its just blue it's easy to forget then, BAAM, up comes iTunes. Took me quite a while to even figure out what was happening.

Good review and spot on. It is rather short and a disappointment to me. I love SHUMPS. This one misses for me. $5 is too high for such a short shooter. No replay value. Sound is not what I expected. Special sound effects poor. Controls awkward. Left thumb must cover space ship (can't see anthing), next your right index finger does the swiping to select the enemies, and finally you must tap the space ship with your thumb to fire. AWKARD>AWKARD. I jumped too early and bought this one.

  28. jeff

    @Dave_b

yeah, really annoying! i have the same problem.

  29. arn

@dave_b @jeff - yeah we'll avoid sidebar linkage in the future.

    hello arn,

thanks for reviewing our game. i think we made it quite difficult for you and everyone else with this one by aiming for casual gameplay with a niche title.

i want to use this opportunity to post some remarks on the comments to your fair and appropriate review.

concerning the sound: every sound effect is taken from the song behind the game. we did not bring in any additional sound effects in order to keep things plain and ... coherent. i am actually quite happy that we surprise.

it might also be interesting to you that we are of course already working on updates. and making the game a bit longer is on top of the list. on the other hand, you can play the game through on a single subway ride. and again on the next day, scoring higher.

Hey. We just released another update to Radio Flare. New features include a new game mode and online leaderboards powered by Feint.
