‘Cube’ First Person Shooter Arrives in App Store for Free

The long awaited release of the first true First Person Shooter has arrived. Cube [App Store] has finally made it into the App Store after a lengthy approval process.

Cube is an open source multiplayer and singleplayer first person shooter game built on an entirely new and very unconventional engine. Cube is a landscape-style engine that pretends to be an indoor FPS engine, which combines very high precision dynamic occlusion culling with a form of geometric mipmapping on the whole world for dynamic LOD for configurable fps & graphic detail on most machines. Uses OpenGL & SDL.

The iPhone port is described as a technology demo that supports all the functionality of the desktop version, though they warn that some of the features are impractical on the iPhone. Indeed, early impressions of the game show framerate issues on many of the levels, but should be a fun distraction and a prelude to what is to come in the future for iPhone gaming.

The developers report that they are working on getting version 1.2 submitted to Apple to address many of the known bugs — including the compressing of many of the textures to make them load faster and take less memory.

Reminds me of "Take No Prisoners" on the PC a zillion years ago. Neat!

Somebody please make Robotron! This game seems to work like it, except the player is on a fixed point, which is fine for this screen size. Great looking game so far.

Just imagine Smash TV with these controls. Would be awesome

Like I said that thread posted above:

(This game) + (capture the flag and/or multiplayer) = the best game in the app store

    in theory

the COntrols are the best on the i phone so far

    i agree

add + (capture the flag and/or multiplayer) = the best game in the app store

i agree with the controls. im working on a shooter with a similar control scheme. left for movement, right for aim, and two buttons each side (but located in the middle bottom) for other actions. this scheme is the most logical and i expect to see it used on many games from now out.

the game play control remind me of the recent game 2079. They should have use the iphone accelerometer tilt as control and the right thumb for fire. It's almost the same. If you use tilt as control you free up more viewing space. I like the music and sound effects too. Hope, it's going to be free though, cause, I'll definitely download it!

A quick note to everyone who has purchased Paradise. Despite our initial testing, a few people are experiencing crashes on startup. We have found the problem and submitted a new version to Apple. This free update should be available this week after Apple approves it.

    Thanks for playing!

    @ Bone Gravy
Do you have any plans to expand the game? There's a lot of potential to make this something incredible.

i agree with what everyone says. some sort of multiplayer would make this one of the best apps in the appstore. I know all my friends would download it if it had co-op like nazi zombies in Call of Duty: WAW. Something along the lines of 2-4 players working together over local wifi to surive as long as possible. You would boost sales so much by doing this because if 1 person had it, all their friends would get it to play along with them

It works, but now - it's dead :(
I purchased it , I played a lot, but now - program crashed every time I run it. Is it possible that JB is killed this game?
    Bone Gravy Games - pleeeeease...
