So, what exactly is Butterscotch Shenanigans, the developer of the fantastic Crashlands, up to with its upcoming game Scuffle Buddies? Well, today we got to see a bit more of Scuffle Buddies, but even with that, we are still in the realm of guesswork and trying to make sense of these Pythian prophecies. The only information we got today is the video you see below, which includes a cinemagraph of a floating piece of ham over a futuristic pad, which eventually gives its place to a purple shape that could be all kinds of things. The cinemagraph (which BS went with because it doesn't have the money to give us a 3D CGI trailer) does give us plenty of clues, but deciphering them is a whole different story.

Is Scuffle Buddies a sports game of sorts where you win by tossing pieces of ham on blue pads? There is some kind of a ball shape over the i in the title, so maybe? At the same time, though, that wouldn't explain those green blinking eyes in the bushes behind the floating ham, unless you have to feed them ham so as to not get attacked or something. Or maybe you use ham to turn those monsters into your buddies? So many possibilities.

And there's also the weird purple symbol at the end that could be a dog-like face or could be a man in a suit viewed from above. Or it could be a four-fingered hand grabbing a mushroom. Or it could be a Rorschach test that I'm failing miserably. Any ideas what this trailer is all about and what kind of game Scuffle Buddies is going to be? BS pointed out that they'll be holding their cards close to the chest because their development style is iterative, so they don't want to show the game off too early. Expect to get a couple more cinemagraphs before we see any actual gameplay. So, ideas? Don't forget to head over here and sign up for the newsletter.

Well, they gave us a funny, futuristic sort-of Monster-Hunter-with-a-story in Crashlands... So, maybe this will be a sweet twist on the monster-collecting-and-battling genre? So, a sport... in a way.

With the ham, there to entice some sort of creature, and the green eyes in the background (probably the creatures you're luring) it seems like this would be some sort of hunting game MAYBE with a sports-like theme or aspect?
I think the symbol is definitely some sort of paw print, and as for the ball it could be some sort of pokémon capture ball or sports ball because the ball in the "i" has a comet tail indicating it's moving or being thrown. Whatever this is I'm excited.

They could just call it “Next Butterscotch Shenanigans Game,” have a blank icon with no description, and I would buy it immediately.

Bad news for me then. If it's going to be sports game sort of then it most probably will have some online PvP functionality if not be focused entirely on it. And, on mobile platforms... This certainly means F2P or "premium" with in-apps and maybe even ads (although it's not really BS style) inside. Don't know about you guys, but that is definitely not my kind of thing. The only detail that gives me a little bit of hope is "The next grand adventure from Butterscotch Shenanigans" at the end of this teaser. "Grand adventure" can't fit in strict rules and tiny arenas of sports game in my opinion. So, maybe... Maybe we just confusing our stereotypes with an actual game? After all, BS is not that sort of guys, who tend to follow cliches.
