So, what exactly is Butterscotch Shenanigans, the developer of the fantastic Crashlands, up to with its upcoming game Scuffle Buddies? Well, today we got to see a bit more of Scuffle Buddies, but even with that, we are still in the realm of guesswork and trying to make sense of these Pythian prophecies. The only information we got today is the video you see below, which includes a cinemagraph of a floating piece of ham over a futuristic pad, which eventually gives its place to a purple shape that could be all kinds of things. The cinemagraph (which BS went with because it doesn’t have the money to give us a 3D CGI trailer) does give us plenty of clues, but deciphering them is a whole different story.
Is Scuffle Buddies a sports game of sorts where you win by tossing pieces of ham on blue pads? There is some kind of a ball shape over the i in the title, so maybe? At the same time, though, that wouldn’t explain those green blinking eyes in the bushes behind the floating ham, unless you have to feed them ham so as to not get attacked or something. Or maybe you use ham to turn those monsters into your buddies? So many possibilities.
And there’s also the weird purple symbol at the end that could be a dog-like face or could be a man in a suit viewed from above. Or it could be a four-fingered hand grabbing a mushroom. Or it could be a Rorschach test that I’m failing miserably. Any ideas what this trailer is all about and what kind of game Scuffle Buddies is going to be? BS pointed out that they’ll be holding their cards close to the chest because their development style is iterative, so they don’t want to show the game off too early. Expect to get a couple more cinemagraphs before we see any actual gameplay. So, ideas? Don’t forget to head over here and sign up for the newsletter.
