One-Touch Platformer ‘Back To Square One’ Now Available

TouchArcade Rating:

The odd week of new releases continues as more than a few games have trickled out later than anticipated. The latest is Umbrella’s single-tap block-by-block platforming game Back To Square One (Free), which you may remember us checking out at GDC this year and really liking what we saw, and Carter felt similarly when he went hands-on with the game just a week ago. I hesitate to make the comparison, but this is almost a side-scrolling Crossy Road type of game, as your goal is to make it through a gauntlet of traps and hazards moving your square character one space at a time.

Besides being an especially challenging game, Back To Square One is also incredibly adorable. Its characters all showcase a ton of personality for being basic geometric shapes, and the lighting and color palette used really gives way to a more sophisticated game than you might expect. There’s something funny about getting your butt handed to you over and over by enemies with big, derpy expressions on their faces. This is amped up even more with the ability to unlock a bunch of silly playable characters, something that’s always fun for some reason. Back To Square One is free so there’s no reason not to take it for a spin and drop by the forum thread with your impressions.
