iOS Version of Popular Board Game ‘Splendor’ is Now Available

TouchArcade Rating:

It released at kind of an oddball time in the week, but we thought board game fans would be excited to know that Days of Wonder has released the digital version of Splendor ($4.99) into the App Store. A couple of weeks back Days of Wonder announced the release date of Splendor on iOS, and our own Tasos Lazarides summarized what the game was all about quite well:

Splendor, developed by Days of Wonder, first released in 2014 and has become quite popular in board game circles. It has received the 2014 Golden Geek “Board Game and Family Game of the Year" from Board Game Geek, the Best Board Game 2014 from the UK Game Expo, and nominations for the German Spiel des Jahres and the French As d’OR. The game is a chip-collecting and card development game where players take the roles of Renaissance merchants trying to buy gem mines, means of transportations, and shops with the goal of acquiring the most prestige points. The game promotes player interactions as you can “reserve" a card to stop an opponent from getting it."

The only real bummer about Splendor on iOS is that it lacks any sort of online multiplayer mode. As most gamers know, asynchronous games make for excellent online multiplayer games on mobile. Thankfully Days of Wonder has already said it’s working on an online multiplayer mode, so expect it sometime in the future. As for right now, Splendor comes with a single-player “Challenges" mode which tasks you with solving specific situations using the mechanics of the game. There’s also a local pass-and-play multiplayer mode for up to 4 people. Finally, if you’re looking for some discussion on Splendor be sure to check out our forums.
