Phosphor Games' action adventure game Horn [$1.99] is now free for the first time ever. Launched way back in 2012, Horn was a fantastic Infinity Blade-like experience that offered some impressive visuals as well as an interesting world to explore. There was even a soundtrack composed by Austin Wintory, the composer of Journey.

As mentioned, Horn has been on sale quite a few times since its release in 2012, but this is the first time it's ever been free. We called it a glorious success in our review so it’s really a must have for free. If you need more convincing for some reason, check out the forums for even more impressions and discussion.

*Free for the first time ever except when it was free via IGN.

    • Themostunclean

Yeah but their free games are only for paid subscribers to IGN Prime. So you were still paying.

      • NickyNichols

No, they are for everyone. I have gotten quite a few of their monthly free iOS games.

      • Themostunclean

Really? Last 2 times I tried it took me to the subscription sign-up page.

    • Jared Nelson

Not the same. If you redeem a promo code for a game, does that mean that game has also "been free" before?

      • NickyNichols

On a massive scale, when it is announced on Reddit and millions of people can readily see and take up the offer.

  • bcredonk

I tried to play this when I had an iPhone 4 and couldn't so I'm pumped it's free now

  • JMan121314

I bought this full price when it originally came out, good game.

  • vai_levar_no_cu

has a bunch of IAP anyway, so guess its not that "free" in the end

nice though, didnt know about this one

  • worldcitizen1919

It's planned to be free all along. First milk premium dry with IAP's included then drop the premium to milk the IAP's. This is all one process. Don't be surprised.

    • Jared Nelson

      "Planned all along"

… a year and a half after its release. Makes sense.

  • markymarkanddafunkybunch

I must be getting old. Too time consuming of a game

    • Based Xatu

I'm like that now, too. I think it means you now realize how much video games waste precious time.

      • LarryWP

Oh my, I could have said that. Getting older stinks. 🙂

  • NPeart

OMG this was such a disappointment!!! Click next room, battle, click next room battle... And the swipe fest from Infinity Blade felt boring from start. Dodge, smudge the screen like crazy, dodge, smudge the screen like crazy....

I felt, that it wasn't even worth the time I downloaded it.

  • Duuude

It looks amazing, but its a real bugfest. Unplayable really, when my character gets stuck all the time for no reason on every other ledge and then is impossible to move at all.
Also ... 6.99 AND IAP or grinding ... really?

  • Psac42

I thought this was a really fun game. There was some grinding with having to repeat some of the embedded areas, but overall an interesting cohesive story and fun gameplay. I liked the mindless slashing here much more than IB, there was some good pieces with vulnerable damage areas and the like.

  • Armed in the Villa

Paid so much for this app, can't beat it and now it's free. Dah, such is life.

  • sheepdog108

I also paid full price back when it first came out. It's a great game , certainly worth downloading for free.

  • ImJPaul

It's like 2.5 GB. The only games staying on my device of that size are TWEWY and IB3.

  • coolpepper43

This is complete BS!!!!! I payed 1 dollar (plus tax) on this when it went on sale and now it's free?!!!! I didn't even start playing it yet. I am going to demand a refund!!!! Devs cannot pull this type of crap!

    • ZarieoZ

      No comment!!!!!

      • dancj

        Don't worry - he's on a wind up.

    • Dr. Woodenstein

Actually, yes. Yes they can pull this type of crap. Besides, you paid 1 measly dollar. Do you know how cheap that is for a game? Do you know that Apple will not give you a refund? Get over it.

      • coolpepper43

It seems most of you missed /s for sarcasm. I am completely joking.

      • Dr. Woodenstein

Well unfortunately it's really hard to recognize stuff like that because I've seen people say those things and actually mean it. 😛

      • coolpepper43

I know... Exactly, that's why I posted it because I was sure someone else was going to but being serious about it. I did put /s in there which means sarcasm. The funniest thing is that I posted this exact thing in the forum earlier before this post and two people thought I was serious. But most people knew right away that I was joking.:D

      • Stormourner

you should be more careful about making this joke

      • coolpepper43

        I hope you're joking but I didn't see /s so now I'm worried.

    • Nemerlebb

The self-entitlement of some people baffles me tbh. I understand raging over a bad grade, a missed opportunity that actually impacts one's life (like a lover etc). But calling BS on a one dollar "loss" is beyong my point of understanding. Everyone knows games in Appstore are going to be free at some point, don't start blaming devs because you were too excited to get your hands on a game they spent large resources into before it went free.
