Well I thought it was both surprising and awesome when Viewtiful Joe and Lester Knight were added as playable characters in the Game Bakers' fantastic touchscreen brawler Combo Crew [$1.99], but today's update really takes the cake. Four new fighters have risen to the occasion and again the Game Bakers have partnered up with Capcom to bring them into Combo Crew. Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and Blanka from Street Fighter II all make their Combo Crew debut in this latest update. Like Viewtiful Joe, each of these new characters will cost 99¢ to download and unlock before you can play with them. Or, if you prefer, you could buy the "Capcom Crew" IAP for $3.99 which unlocks all four new characters and Viewtiful Joe, plus will include any future new characters for free.

Besides all these new playable characters, Combo Crew made a dramatic change to the core gameplay in this update by allowing counters to be performed at any time, so you don't have to be stuck waiting for an attack to play out if you decide you'd rather cancel and counter in the middle. The enemies have also been given new attack behaviors to keep the combat freshened up, and of course there's a bunch of smaller tweaks and bug fixes to make Combo Crew an overall better game. It really has come a long way since its initial release back in May, and we even loved the heck out of it back then. If you're a Combo Crew fan as well, be sure to grab the latest update and check out these exciting new Street Fighter II characters in the game. If you haven't played before, definitely give it a download while free, as it's one of the finest brawlers ever to grace a touchscreen.

slap for those of us that paid for it..lesson learned

    • Sebastian Gomez

It's an awesome game... So it was worth every penny.

    • http://twitter.com/JaredTA Jared Nelson

Wow, is this sarcasm? This game came out in May, FIVE months ago. This is the first time it's ever been free.

  • Kane

I'm pretty sure Capcom file a complaint for this game, stealing the likeness of characters. I'll give this game a month before its pulled or modified to change character designs.

    • mclifford82

They'd have done it by now.

    • ZarieoZ

Hey, you do know that it's cap com that made a deal with them for the characters a couple of months ago & that these characters have been in the game for a few months now?? They are not breaking any laws here.

    • KillerSpecialK

They have gotten permission from Capcom for Viewtiful Joe and the Street Fighter characters. You'd be a fool to think that anyone would try to get one by on Capcom or for Capcom to not notice this instantly.

      • Kane

Ah then all is good. I just wish all characters came in one discount priced IAP pack.

      • Sebastian Gomez

        Read this:

"Or, if you prefer, you could buy the "Capcom Crew" IAP for $3.99 which unlocks all four new characters and Viewtiful Joe, plus will include any future new characters for free."

And yeah... I paid for it too, so I kinda felt the slap as well, but still I'm glad I bought it ^^

    • themostunclean

"Game Bakers have partnered up with Capcom..."

Doesn't get much clearer that they obviously have permission to use the characters.

Do some people even bother reading articles before making comments?

  • tacoprime

Where's the IAP purchase pack with all characters?

  • https://www.facebook.com/DigitalDistillery Scot Damn

So this is a fantastic game! I paid full price for it, so seeing it go free kinda sucks, but it was worth every penny! Seriously download this game for free if you haven't picked it up yet. It's really a lot of fun.

    • Jake7905

I also paid full price for Combo Crew, and though I definitely got my 2 dollars worth, it did sting a little bit knowing I'd have to pay extra for the new characters.

Put it this way: if I had gotten it for free, and never played it through before, I would have immediately dropped $4 on the Capcom Crew. Now, having it for months and already having paid for it (and played it to death) I don't see buying more then 1 new character, if any.

      Still, great game.

      • http://twitter.com/JaredTA Jared Nelson

Dudes, really? I said this to someone above, but this game has never been free before and it's been out for five months. It's not like it came out yesterday and now it's free. It's so weird what people do or do not feel burned about on the App Store. I guarantee you have at least a dozen games on your device that have gone free faster than five months. Not trying to be a jerk, just sayin! 🙂

      • Jake7905

Hey, it always sucks seeing something you pay for go free, and then implement IAP to unlock new content. Just because it's happened dozens of times (and is an accepted risk) doesn't make it suck any less.

      • http://twitter.com/JaredTA Jared Nelson

I could see that if it was a paid game going freemium or something, but I think the statute of limitations for feeling burnt on a sale is way before five months. And IAP for new characters I think is fine, much better than IAP consumable "power ups" or some such junk. The last update featured a paid DLC character too. I mean they are all Capcom characters and I could never imagine them just giving them away for free in a game that's not even theirs. It would devalue those iconic characters and they would get zero benefit from it.

That's just the way I see it, I'm not saying you are wrong or shouldn't feel the way you do. Just never imagined seeing people make those kinds of complaints in this situation.

      • https://www.facebook.com/DigitalDistillery Scot Damn

Not sure if this is directed at me. I said it kinda sucks to see it go free and than went on to recommend it for free, which isn't the same as me going off about being burned by a dev.

Also, I hope you;re prepared to not understand everyone. The reason being, one feeling 'burned' is entirely subjective from person to person. This is the same reason why I can't explain to you why I would feel burned on the internet. Games that go free within a week or two of launching (depending on the price I paid) is when I feel burned. Not so much here.

      • http://twitter.com/JaredTA Jared Nelson

Yeah, I reread your and jake's comments and think I misunderstood a bit. I think I read them too quickly after seeing the "slap in the face lesson learned!" guy above. Apologies.

      • Jake7905

I definitely wouldn't call it a 'slap in the face, and I don't feel burned by the developer.

      • https://www.facebook.com/DigitalDistillery Scot Damn

Yeah that's exactly what I thought may have happened. No biggy, I agree with your points and the slap in face comment is definitely overboard.

  • Echoen

Had a blast with this when it first came out. It's great to see it still up and kicking with great new additions and tons of improvements. These guys listen to the community and they're good people so grab this opportunity to try it out and support the team that made the Crew 😀

  • Ramaz1234

    Nice just got it.

  • Greatgoat

  • PresidentZer0
