Deus Ex: The Fall is a third-person, cover-based shooter set during the events of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Coming to iPad and iPhone "soon," Fall puts players in the boots of Ben Saxon on a quest to expose the truth behind "a drug conspiracy." Much like Human Revolution's protagonist Jenson, Saxon is equipped with all sorts of insane augmentations that give him the power to bust through walls and choke a dude, hack terminals, and bust through walls and choke a dude. These bad guys are going to wish they never conspired, surely.

Announced out of thin air, we don't have a lot to go on so far. However, there's this video, which shows off some of the game's mechanics. It could just be clever editing, but Fall looks like it'll play an awful lot like Human Revolution. That could be bad, so-so, or great depending on how well the virtual controls and UI are implemented.

We'll oil up the all-seeing eye's swivel so it'll grab more information faster. Fall could be really cool, especially if it keeps in line with the tone and themes of its predecessor. A lot of fascinating, thoughtful stuff was explored.

Looks beautiful. iPad really has come into its own as a game console.

    • Maszek

Deus Ex is a deep RPG/shooter hybrid with a massive and loyal following of PC gamers, who don't want to see a simplified version of the game on a platform that many of them don't even own

      • Maniacfive

DX changed significantly with Invisible War, being optimised for consoles, which the Pc gamers complained about. And it changed a bit more with Human Revolution, I don't think they're going to mind that much if an iPad game which is clearly gonna bridge the gap between HR and the next one is released.

But yah, sure does suck when franchises you love make money on all sorts of other platforms meaning you get new games down the line!

      • ElectromagneticMelaniePulse

Speak for yourself! As a hardcore Deus Ex fan (I own three copies of the original game, plus the PS2 version, two copies of Invisible War, and Human Revolution + Missing Link), I would LOVE to see the game come to iOS in any form. Portable gaming, and in particular touchscreen gaming, doesn't have to mean huge compromises as long as the game is designed well, and even a less complex game could still be a great experience.

      • VISI

I am afraid I agree with Maszek here, each system benefits from certain styles of gameplay. FPS games work best on PC because they were designed to work on that specific system. You just are much more accurate, its why aim assist is now a feature. Deus Ex was a complex and deep fps/rpg experience and where as I didn't enjoy Invisible war, I thought the PC version of HR was very good. So as a fan I am saddened to see a more simple looking game come from a game that brought the series back. Don't get me wrong, I am going to get this, and I am impressed at what they have achieved on the iPad, but when it comes down to the truth, I would rather play it on something else because of the type of game it is.

      • Shirflex

I totally agree with you... I wanted the sequel game to be released for pc.. It feels like square enix didn't want to work hard on it and released a simplified short version of the game on ios instead the full and long playtime game on pc or consoles

      • Ryan J Gill

Honestly, that is asinine. If you don't "even own" the platform, what do you care one way or another? That's like saying Ace Combat fandom suffered for that awful GBA game. No, fans just didn't buy it. If you don't like it, skip it (Mass Effect Infiltrator comes to mind). If you don't even own an iPad (and this goes for the hypothetical people you brought up) then find something else to whine about.

Sorry to be stand-offish, but I just have come to hate fanboy entitlement. "I like this series, so it must ONLY come to systems I personally approve of, in a format I approve of. Any deviation of these parameters is BETRAYAL." People need to grow up.

  • PureRumble

Oh oh oh plz make it free-to-pay, taking only one dollar per ammo clip!

I can afford it, i swear i can!!

  • postmodernpilot

This looks really awesome. I hope it's actually fun to play Deus Ex in my pocket.

  • Smartbomb

I loved DE2, such an intriguing atmosphere and game world.

    I'm in.

  • dylanmannen

OMG, this is great news, super cool! :D

  • Rince

I love Deus Ex; now I can carry it in my pocket. I'm in. Sold!

  • iVaro

I literally watched the video with my mouth gaping

  • b150035

It's interesting to see the different reactions to this sort of news. On the major gaming sites, people are flipping out over this while here on the actual touch gaming sites, people are fine with it (sort of).

I'm also intrigued with what this has to offer, Human Revolution was a really fun game and I want to see how well this translates onto the iPad.

  • LousyHero

I've loved every deus ex dating back to the original for pc. I really hope this turns out well, it would make me sad to dislike a deus ex game.

  • TangentWorlds

This is great and unexpected news.

  • Bool Zero

    ...
    ....
    ......

Things I need to do after watching this video:
    A. Throw money at screen...
    B. Close gaping mouth so flies to lay eggs in it...
    C. Add to watch list... Do it several times to make sure it takes!
    D. Cry until it releases... Preferably in fetal position in a corner,
    E. Change pants...

    Not in any specific order!

    • Bool Zero

As an aside: we are really seeing some love on is devices now it seems! So many great games released and so many announced, it seems like real major developers are seeing this platform as a viable market!

  • ridiculocity

    Want, want, want and WANT!

  • ImJPaul

This is AMAZING!!!! Holy ostrich tots!!!!!

  • handycapman

You guys should read some of the comments on the ign and kotaku articles. They are the complete opposite with lots of negativity all around. Skaters gonna skate!

    • Nekku

yes cuz most of them expected a new full console/pc deus ex game it seems. well, i don't care. I loved Deus Ex HR and in general the cyperpunk setting so i'am rly excited about the news ^_^

      • Maszek

Yes, theyd much rather spend $50 on a game than $7.

    • 3n+r0py

Same observation here with handycapman on the IGN and Kotaku user comments on their writeups.

I really don't get all the hate around Deus Ex making the jump to mobile. Heck I love the eye candy my PC cranks out when I play games on it, but AAA IPs looking at iOS to develop games for it is a step forward for gaming in general, not just mobile games.

And no, I don't want to comment about the reasons these gamers despise iOS or phone/tablet gaming. Go take a look yourself.

  • Maszek

Lol at the comments here by real gamers:

wow, that turned out ugly...wasnt thinking about formatting :(

  • http://tarasis.net/ Robert McGovern

It's amusing over at Eurogamer, all the PC / console gamers are up on arms at this.

  • B30

And now bring the iPad 5!

  • Deixa

One of these two things will happen. FACT!
    1. Free to pay (I mean play)
    2. Will cost you both arms and both legs

    • codename_grey

Would have been more accurate to your to say "fee to play" as you're always free to pay for anything.

FACT: the game is premium not freemium.

      • codename_grey

        ^point

  • Ryan Bach

As an iOS gamer, I guess I should be happy and excited.

As a Deus Ex fan who also games on PC, I'm pissed. They've been hyping this up for a while now, and everyone was anticipating a REAL sequel to Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It's hard to imagine a gaming franchise that is LESS suited to going mobile. I guess this is great news for iOS-only gamers, but it's awful news for core gamers.

    • B30

Why is this aweful, it's cool to have some variety. You do know that, that you don't have to play it, right?

    • codename_grey

What hype, please list all the sources from square or eidos. Also, I very much doubt this'll only be iOS judging by the fact that most of squares titles have had android versions released as well.. Android is far more fragmented than iOS so getting something out and seeing the feedback on iOS before investing time money and resource in expensive android dev would probably be the strategy of choice

  • JaysUsernam

    iOS takes off hat.
iOS throws hat in console war ring.

  • Maszek

Okay guys, which of you asked for this?

    • Maniacfive

Adam Jensen did NOT ask for this.

  • famousringo

    Mmmmm, nerd rage is yummy.

  • Maniacfive

I loved DX, liked DX: invisible War, and went totally cuckoo bananas for Human Revolution, so, yes, this will be an insta-buy. I hope they charge a premium price like they do the final fantasy stuff.

    TAKE MY MONEY SQUARE ENIX!

Didn't think I'd be saying that about their iPad releases, but there ya go.

  • demonalcohol

I'll be buying this day 1 if only to support the awesome team that brought dues ex back from a shit franchise with the release of human evolution

  • Matthew Rossman

Oh my gosh. Human Revolution was amazing. Expected this to be some crap shooter like Mass Effect Infiltrator to just cash in on the franchise. But...this literally looks just like the console game, but perfectly made for touchscreens. This may be a dream come true.

  • Goggles789

This is exciting news! I hope it lives up to the expectations the series has set.

  • Jesse7277

I've never seen so many self entitled, whiny bitches as I've seen on "real" gamer sites complaining about this game. One guy even accused me of "destroying" hardcore gaming if I buy this. Wow.

  • handycapman

    This ^

  • Maszek

Whats funny is how do you guys expect developrs taking the platform seriously with such negative reactions toward ios by all gamers? Even editos own blog has this reaction and it is all one sided. Why dont you guys convince them they made the right decision?

    • Jesse7277

I will convince them with my money.

      • Jesse7277

Hopefully I'm not the only one.

    • Jesse7277

I took your advice and went to Square enixs' FB page and voiced my support. Perhaps more of the people who support iOS and this game should do the same? Right now it's about 85 negative comments and my 2;)

  • Jesse7277

I kinda feel like Square put themselves in a bad position by hyping this game up through the regular gamer websites. People's instant thought was a direct sequel to HR. maybe they should of included some sort of hint towards an iOS platform. I think a lot of people are more let down than pissed. Anger was just the easiest reaction. Seriously I've never seen do many hateful comments over a game. It really makes the gaming community look shitty in my opinion:/

  • Maszek

    Lol at this:

  • GameExp3rt

    Good games are coming

  • iOSPeace

This game is gonna be cracked before you know It and you won't have to pay for the game. That's what I do lol

    • handycapman

      Keep it classy sir.

    • codename_grey

      Ha, you're an idiot.

  • xzeldax3

I'd rather play it with a controller so I don't get hand cramps after 20 minutes.

  • Escoria

Wow preview looks great. I hope its not full of IAP. That would kill the game for me regardless of how good the game looks or plays.

It does not look like a sequel, but more like a side story during the Human Revolution game. Jaron Namir, the merc leader, appears in the video preview. He was the third crappy boss fight of the HR game. Some of the scenery/assets seems to be recycled from HR.

This will introduce DeusEx to more players and open the doors to full blown sequels in the premium platforms and ios too.

This is great for mobile gaming

  • dariusjr98

So it's more or less the Mass Effect Infiltrator of the Deus Ex universe? Awesome. I was one of the few who loved ME: I, and this game seems cool too, but unfortunately I don't own an iPad.

    • dariusjr98

Scratch my comment. The title of the article first read "Coming for iPad." Now that I know this is coming for iPhone as well…HOLY @$&!"%> @?#*$ I CAN'T WAIT!

  • Ben Norvell

With this, KOTOR, , world war z, warhammer quest, KR frontiers, and block fortress, 2013 is shaping up to be a great year for mobile gaming!

  • Lazyninja7

-.- Brad, did you actually watch the video. It is clearly a first person game, not at ALL a 3rd person cover to cover

    • Jesse7277

It goes to 3rd person when taking cover or performing a stealth attack. Per the video.

  • valz34

Ipad mini cannot handle it... ~_~

  • Talos

Nah, not much to explore at all. A tablet has no memory for storage and "a lot of fascinating stuff" to explore requires memory and processing power, something that smartphones and tablets of all kinds lack in DROVES.

  • flashbackflip

    Almost as good, as KOTOR!

    Watchlisted!

  • zerilos

Personally Im excited. If we recall the Walking Dead game, we know that excellent story driven gaming experiences are very possible on the iPad.
