Hey, it's that time again when all the international releases from out weekly Coming Tonight post have finally gone live in the US App Store. There were some good games in this week's batch of new releases, so be sure to check out that post to see if anything strikes your fancy. Probably the two biggest releases this week are the sequel to Temple Run and an interesting new Final Fantasy game, both of which we took a look at earlier today and we'll go ahead and provide the links for you here in this post.

Temple Run 2, Free - [Forum Thread] - [TA Plays] - This is basically the Temple Run you know and love, but bigger and better in every way. Better visuals, smoother performance, upgradeable items, four playable characters, and new environmental items like zip lines and mine cart rides. Just like its older sibling Temple Run 2 is free to download and play, so if you were the fan of the first or if it passed you by and you're curious what all this Temple Run business is all about then there's no reason not to give it a try.

FINAL FANTASY ALL THE BRAVEST, Free - [Forum Thread] - [TA Plays] - Square Enix has released a new Final Fantasy game for iOS, and it's something of a conglomeration of all previous Final Fantasy games mashed together into a combat-focused package. Not a bad idea in and of itself for a mobile spinoff title, but there are a couple of strange aspects to the game that have given us pause. The combat itself is quite basic for one thing, but beyond that there's a host of IAP options that seems like it might be an annoyance. We'll spend some more time with it to see for sure, but if you're a big Final Fantasy fan then it's probably worth at least dropping the initial 4 bucks to check it out firsthand.

Never going to that forum again. Lots of little twits whining about "pop in" to such a fantastic game.

I guess you enjoy games with pop-in? I think it's a great game, but there is no excuse for pop-in when the basic premise is rather simple.

I genuinely stared at the screen for a few seconds after reading "fantastic game", just in case I'd missed something. So let me just get this clear... are you talking about Temple Run 2?

I downloaded it about 12 hours ago and within fifteen minutes I was bored. A few windy paths and a new texture really isn't enough of a change. It's slight at best when compared to the original Temple Run, and less than that when you consider how many clones are out there trying so many different things with the formula. It's yet another repetitive, grind-heavy runner that results in...? Absolutely nothing. A few dull characters to unlock and then you're done.

The first game was fine as an example of mobile gaming in 5-minute bursts and it was nice to see the genre from a new perspective, but there's no chance it was innovative enough to stand as a series of games without making more radical changes. It was what it was designed to be. A quick distraction. No depth, no real content to speak of, just face value, bus journey entertainment. It ends when the bus journey ends. "Amusing" is a term I could settle for, maybe even "cute", but "fantastic"? Are we really throwing that word around so lightly these days?

That comment felt a lot shorter when I was writing it. It's not supposed to be a rant, I'm not mad at the game's success and I like Imangi. It was merely a fleeting thought that stretched itself out a little too long.

Just so you know, sometimes you can't find a game when it first comes out by searching the store. But you'll still find it through a hotlink.

I downloaded temple run at 11pm est in canada last night.

Tried to comment on this through my iPad & iPhone apps, but it no longer works. Error Code: 18.

Anyway, don't bother going over to the FF ATB forum. You probably want to complain about the cost, and they are throwing comments into the Price Dump that relate to price... Well, they were. It looks like more and more people keep commenting on it's cost. I guess there's more IAP costs to talk about than actual game content.

You need to log out and back in again before posting using the iOS app. It's a right pain in the arse. I hope they fix it soon.

Square is the George Lucas of videogames. They've had some brilliant successes in the past and occasional moments of greatness since, but typically they just milk the nostalgia dry.
