If you still don't have Infinity Blade [$5.99] and/or Infinity Blade II [$5.99], now is your chance to get them on the cheap. Both are fantastic swipe-based sword fighting games which in recent App Store history have been often imitated but never duplicated. I'm not sure if it's the fantastically nuanced combat, the seemingly endless item-based experience system, the weird SciFi-ish universe the games are mysteriously framed in, or something else entirely that makes the Infinity Blade series so awesome. Regardless, you need 'em.

If you need that extra push over the edge, check out our reviews of the first and second game.

The real question here isn't what makes the Infinity Blade titles so good, but instead, why the sale on the eve of the Apple keynote? I'm getting strong readings from my proverbial tea leaves that Infinity Blade: Dungeons is going to make an appearance tomorrow to show off the power of the new iPhone. Maybe even a "Hey this is Infinity Blade: Dungeons, check out how awesome it is, by the way it's available now." Remember, that's the exact same song and dance Epic pulled with Epic Citadel [Free].

I guess we'll see tomorrow!

ofcource they do this. i already had the feeling 2 weeks back that they would launch the game together with the new iphone. first alot of attention to them again showing how perfect everything looks on the new iphone with new graphics and A6, then selling potentionally more.

        iPhone 4 & iPad 1= A4 chip.
        iPhone 4S, iPad 2 & 3= A5 chip.
iPhone 5 might have an A6.
        It's a rumor. We'll find out tmrw.

      • wingz

        ....what about the A5X chip

I think its worth noting that there were 124 comments on the original IB2 review and most of them were negative responses to the initial post recommending people wait for a drop to $2.99 vs purchasing immediately.

Well, I had a "backlog" and knew it would be months before I would actually play, so I held off and am purchasing today.  Sure, its now old news but its a valid pricing strategy and I will gladly give Chair my money now that I'm more likely to actually play the game.

On a slightly unrelated note, I'm sure I'm not the norm but I also just bought Mass Effect 3 on xbox 360 for $15 and Bioshock 1 & 2 for $10 each (all new) since I hadn't played any of those yet.

    • ducksFANjason

I just started playing Bioshock 1 & 2 also! I've been waiting for Mass Effect 3 to drop in price as well, where'd you grab it from?

      • http://twitter.com/Micahsa Micah Peterson

There was a sale at Gamestop and I actually traded in about 10 other games I'll never play again and ended up with a remaining $30 credit after the purchase.  Who knew Civ Revolution on xbox would resell for almost $20?

  • Outrager

I just picked up Infinity Blade 1 cause of the sale. I used to have an iPod Touch 2nd Gen so I couldn't play them, but I just got a used iPhone 4.
I kind of wish I went straight for IB2 though since I've read nothing carries over. Oh well, I'll just keep playing IB1 and be ignorant of IB2 until I finish it. Still a pretty fun game. I didn't think I would like it that much.
It's a killer on the battery, though. Don't know if that's normal or because this is a 2year old battery. Makes me want to look into one of those portable rechargeable batteries to carry around on long trips where I would want to play this.

    • Michael Matzat

It always was sucking the battery. Thats just a price you have to pay for high level unreal action.

      • Outrager

That's good to know. Ever since switching from a regular phone to this iPhone 4 I've been constantly watchful of the battery life. Sucks having to go from a phone you charge once every 4-5 days to one you charge almost daily, but the benefits of a smartphone are worth it.

      • Michael Matzat

I have no idea why no smartphone company has used the size of their phone to put solarcells on the back of their phones. Maybe not good enough to play infinety blade, but if you just put it out in the light during work or in a cafe you will at least have the power to make a call if needed.

      • Outrager

It might be because solar cells are kind of expensive. Also you'll have people leaving their phones in the hot summer sun and the whole thing melts something inside or it overheats when you try to use it right afterwards. Companies wouldn't want to deal with that.

    • ElPumo

Drains my 4S battery real quick.

Yeah, I have owned them both for a while now, and probably paid full price even. However, I had taken them off my iphone and ipad due to their size and wanting to play other games. However, for some reason, I just installed Infinity Blade 1 on my iphone again, and can't stop playing! I have also restarted the ebook again. I have a feeling its going to be an Infinity Blade kinda Autumn!

  • GSJ1977

IB:Dungeons could be out tomorrow? That would be awesome with chips. And vinegar.

If, however, IB:Dungeons is "only available on the new hardware" for some iffy reason, I will be a bit less pleased.  This coming from an iPad 1 owner, still smarting a little about that.

    • ImJPaul

Epic has said, "it will only look this good on the new iPad." so take from that what you will but at least we know new iPad is in the line-up. So probably 4S as well. The next gen definitely. But anything prior to 4S and iPad 3 is still shrouded in mystery.

      • Michael Matzat

If it´s running on the iPad 3 there is no reason not to have it run on the iPad 2 since all the extra power on iPad 3 came to power all the extra pixels. Of cause that will make it look better... but i am sure they like to sell their game to as many people as possible. I am calling iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, the new iPods (if they come), iPad 2 and iPad 3 for this one.

      • ImJPaul

It would make sense. BUT Infinity Blade is one of the most profitable franchises on iOS. Epic is exclusive to Apple and very close with the company. It is possible that they cut iPad 2 out just to boost sales of the new devices being announced tmrw. I mean, I spent $750 on a new iPad JUST so I could play infinity blade dungeons. It's unlikely, I'm just prepping you in case it does happen. But chances are IF (and I hope) it comes out tmrw night then you will probably be playing along with the rest of us. Just a little less pretty then new iPad owners. Nbd.

  • araczynski

i suck at the controls, i'd equally say the controls suck (to me) as well, so have no interest in wasting money on more of the same, even at the buck it will eventually get to, but am curious about the dungeons game, at least judging by the presentation quality of the two infinity blade games.

    • regkilla

The controls are easy. wtf man

      • araczynski

everything's relative in life.  easy to one is wtf to another.  i just suck at and detest timed/patterned swipes and in general 'gestures'.

  • ImJPaul

If that happened I would be the happiest boy in the world. I would play it. Beat it and die. Don't tell my girlfriend.

  • agentblank

    Yes please!

  • Michael Matzat

I also like the markout hype by TouchArcade. I remember how often we read and listend to talk about the GTA3 App to "maybe come out very soon". 😀 Sometimes they are just fanboys (and someimes haters :-p ) like every other dude on the forum. 😀

  • drloony

Double or nothing IB: Dungeons comes tomorrow night, man I hope TA is right about this.

    • ImJPaul

Me too man. I'll be so crushed if the 'coming tonight" section doesn't have IB:D. It doesnt matter what else is on that list, nothing else would replace it. It's the equivalent of stealing Christmas from a spoiled 5 year old.

I'm not sure it's fair to call Horn an imitation of Infinity Blade. I'm not a fan of IB, but I just picked Horn up and I'm loving it so far. In my mind, the fact that you can walk around anywhere adds so much depth to the game. It feels like a world, not just a series of battles with nice cinematics in between.
