Dungeon Defenders: Second Wave (see what Trendy did there) will be released as a free update to the iOS versions of Dungeon Defenders: First Wave [$2.99] tomorrow, the developer has told us via an e-mail release. According to Trendy, Second Wave addresses "many of the issues" from the first game, including the horrendously cluttered UI and clunky menus that kept us from enjoying its first try at an iOS port of its downloadable game.

In addition to these improvements, Second Wave will see "performance improvements," and a player-versus-player content package called "Arena." If you pop out your eyeglasses, you'll be able to see some of these tweaks and adds in its newly-released trailer.

In case you didn't know, Dungeon Defenders is now available on Xbox Live Arcade and as a PC release on Steam. These versions are particularly good according to media types, so you might want to consider checking those out if you're into the game's hack-and-slash meets tower defense action.

I hate this game. Having to run around before every battle to collect gems (mana) just to you can finally get around to setting up defenses is really boring. They absolutely must set this up so the map is in traditional overhead view (you shouldn't have to walk all the way over to where you want to setup a trap/tower) to setup your defenses and then you start the game in action mode. It would be a million times better this way and I can't fathom how they thought this would be better. I shouldn't have to run around smashing chests to get gems and items...just pop up what I get in the UI after a battle is over so I can get back to playing the game.

Agreed. The original was an over-hyped disappointment. The game mechanic was simply a mess, IMO - - well, at least on the iPad. One of the few paid for games I removed pretty quickly to make room. PC gamers seem to be enjoying it.

      Youre both insane.

That's ok, we're entitled -- the same way you are entitled to be easily satisfied. Oh, and you said, both, but it's more like "you five" counting the likes.

I liked the orig game a lot.  Some UI issues, some frame lag on iPhone 4 w/4 players online, but still -- a great 3D fantasy strategy real-time tower def game -- c'mon, that's awesome!  Pllus the game is awesome -- even before getting revamped to accomodate big spenders.  rekzkarz.com

Didn't the dev make a big deal out of this supporting cross-platform multiplayer? A couple friends own the PC version, so I'd be interested in hearing how that's coming along.

According to their twitter, who knows?

cross platform multiplayer isnt working quite yet.  However, you can move your ios saves to the PC, but that data only is accessed in the unranked mode.  Ranked, on steam, doesnt allow any hacking, so all the old ios saves are not allowed as hacking was a huge issue.  So basically, you can move ios to pc, but only play in unranked.  PC to ios is coming in the future.  I am not a developer, I just love the game.

"Particularly Good"? I've spent over 70 hours on the PC Version already... It's amazing.

Update might get me to play it again. Just got tired of it because of how badly it performed. Hopefully the update doesn't erase my data like the last one did.

I actually enjoyed first wave. Took a while to get into, but I put a lot of time into it. If I can get my characters from first wave into the new game, I'll pick it up.

My characters survived the update to Second Wave.

I deleted it a while ago.  Did they ever change it so that you could quit in the middle of a level in single-player mode and then start again from the same point, instead of having to play the whole dang level?  That's what killed it for me, that I had to commit to so much gaming time in one sitting when I started to play.

If you were just playing offline, then you were wasting your time anyway. I wouldnt recommend redownloading it.
