Sometimes promotions never end. At least, that’s the case with Pocket Legends. In April, developer Space Time Studios kicked off an anniversary celebration that dished out free access to six areas for the generous asking price of $0. Now, the studio is announcing that those areas will remain free FOREVER -- or until we all die in 2012, one or the other.

That’s a deal, but you have to wonder how Space Time plans to make money while a large swathe of its instance-based content is free. That’s where this comes in: the studio has just announced a brand new “premium” area called the “Sandstone Caves.”

It’s made for players around level 20 to 25 and includes what you want: a new town, a new series of quests, new enemies, new bosses, and new weapons, armor and items.

The price? 10 in-game Platinums, which should help satisfy the need for Space Time to fill its coffers. The lowest amount of Platinums that you can buy at the moment is 30 for $4.95, which is likely the catch here.

It’s also possible to earn free in-game cash in exchange for taking part in one of those now-infamous marketing loops. “Yes, you can still get free Platinum with Tapjoy in both Apple and Android devices," a representative told us.

Just for reference, the areas that are set to remain free are Balefort Castle, Fathom Crypts, The Lost Expedition, The Ancient Swamps, Balefort Sewers, and last but not least, The Alien Oasis Trilogy.

Pocket Legends is one of the deepest, most well designed mobile MMOs on the market to date. As we've previously noted, we reviewed the game last year, but a lot has changed since then, so you'd probably be better off reading the official "Quick Start" guide to get a good sense of what Pocket Legends is about. Oh, and if you're in the market for a more in-depth look at Sandstone Caves, these two articles wouldn't be a bad start.

so does that mean we can lvl past lvl 13? and if we can what is the new lvl cap? <,< for nonpayers and payers

I think you can go to true max level, not just 13, while it is free.

how is pocket legend compared to order and chaos online?

    • Crish

I didn´t play PL for a while but I like Order and Chaos more. Mostly because PL doesn´t have free roaming.

based on the app feedback they seems to have funnelled more in game item content into paid only stuff (platinum), rather than gold (earned in game). money grab, started downloading to check the game out again, but then i realized why i quit mmo's years ago.... same stupid forced group grind over and over.

    moving on.

That Grinding is actually still Fun if you are Grinding with some Friends together and are talking Online through Teamspeak/Skype.

      • andrzej raczynski

that's just it though, dont' have any friends to grind with, i'm married ;) anyway, i've always liked mmo's, just hated the part where you're pretty much forced to group after a certain point. if they made an mmo that was solo friendly i'd probably be hooked for ever.

City of Heroes/Villains. Far from cutting edge, but going surprisingly strong after nearly 8 years and you can do 80+% of the content solo.

Does anyone else think this is "too little, too late"? This is directly in response to the loss in PL population count. O&C is dominating as a new title, yet its a totally different type of MMO. I think Space Time Studios is doing the right thing though. Let's hope Blackstar has a fresh take on the MMO genre.

    • http://twitter.com/nrathaus Noam Rathaus

I believe it is due to Order & Chaos, I have recently switched from playing daily on PL to playing on O&C

There is no match to the playability of O&C to that of PL, PL is strictly linear, finish a quest, move the next, with little to no interaction.

With O&C you can either do quests, bash monsters, roam around, build your guild, etc...

    • C.Hannum

It's undoubtedly too little too late. They're onto something with the structured instances, but the rest of the game engine and design is no longer remotely current with something like O&C out. I nearly deleted PL numerous times because it was such a linear time sink with little in the way of freedom or skill, well, since O&C I did delete it. I'll certainly check out Blackstar when it launches, but I think they'll putting a fork in PL before too long.

  • Joshuaedwardk

Pl dominated this market for a year now its Order and chaos turn.

I like this game a lot that i train till lvl55. However, with all the lag i experience even though the connection is good, it breaks my heart and till now i didn't play for 1-2months. The first and foremost for this game is to solve the lag experience by most of the players. If not, they wont keep their experience players for long. ARGH!!

  • Gertv

Wow, so many areas remain free? Well that sucks. I paid 8€ for the areas that are now free, so I think that's a real ripoff :(

i looked for promo codes and did not find one pm skaanaji if you now one
