If you're looking for a couple games to play over the weekend for the low price of, well, free-- Here are a couple you should try.

Cubed Rally Racer - Back when this game was first released, I gushed like crazy in our review. It's an isometric 3D racer with completely randomized tracks. You can do all kinds of awesome things like endlessly generate tracks to always have something new to race on, then you can even send those tracks and your associated ghost data to any of your friends via OpenFeint. If you've got an iPad, Cubed Rally Racer HD [$1.99] is also worth checking out because the two player spitscreen mode is really cool.

Giant Moto - We thought Giant Moto had tons of potential when it first was released, but a limited number of tracks and weird controls were hard to overlook. Since then, new tracks have been added along with OpenFeint support for some extra replay value via leaderboards and achievements. If you have fond memories of Excitebike, don't miss this one while it's free.

Both are really good, I'm glad I waited to get CRR now. I had too many games to play when it originally came out.

    Oh yeah, firsties :D

    Thanks for mentioning Giant Moto!

I don´t like the control mechanic in CRR at all! No sign of traction, just sliding around.

    • Acidbottle

totally agree, felt weird and very unnatural when turning corners.

    • Robotron2084

I don't enjoy this game's controls either. Glad it was free.

someone REEAALLY needs to make a true excite bike. giant moto looks fun but it aint gonna cut it for excite bike

You should try Motorcross Challenge - also free this weekend! - much closer to Excitebike than anything else on the iOS in my opinion, however If someone actually found an even better game, let us know! :) Still, I'd rather play Joe Danger on the PS3 to completely scratch that itch.

Oh and I also didn't like CRR at all, controls are plain bad. When you compare it to the newly released Reckless Racing which has spot on controls, the difference is too clear.

If you are looking for an old school racing game, check out 'Lilracers' in the App Store...

Giant Moto is quite nice - very playable Exitebike like fun. I can't really say much about Cube Rally Racer other than it was designed for masochists who worship badly designed control. As much as I appreciate that it was a free game, I'll never play it. Games should draw you right in, not turn you right off.

Downloaded both. Tried both. Deleted both. Cubed controls terribly, and the controls in Giant Moto are terrible.

Agreed. Completely. I was willing to give it a chance. I was actually a bit excited, based on the reviewer, but god, it just sucks (CRR)

Games like this unfortunately give a bad rep for the app store. Boo.
