Revolution Software has just released the iPad version of Broken Sword: The Director's Cut. Broken Sword is a remake of a point-and-click adventure from 1996 that many have considered one of the best in the genre. We reviewed the iPhone version of the game back in January and even gave it a 5 star rating -- making it one of the best iPhone games in our January rankings.

The iPad version adds graphical improvements, a digital version of the Broken Sword comic (which must be unlocked in the game), and new content.

"This really is the definitive version," says Charles Cecil, managing director, Revolution Software. "Rather than rush the game out for the US launch, we have taken the time to get it just right, and with the higher resolution graphics, and the addition of the digital comic as a bonus feature, there's a lot of new content to enjoy. We are thrilled to be able to release the game to coincide with the European launch of the iPad."

Here is the video trailer for the iPhone version:

Check out our iPhone version review for an detailed explanation of the game. In the end we highly recommended it for old fans as well as newcomers to the genre.

A Universal version that runs on both big and small devices would have been better. Waaaaah!

I am now playing through the iphone version and wow! Such an amazing game. So, pretty, controls beautifully and the writing is just brilliant. I don't begrudge the iPad-only version - it has extra content, they deserve all the money they can get, really, and the iphone port is pure quality as is, but I hope that they have been working on porting the sequels too. Getting the extras as an in-app purchase for the iphone version could have been nice, though.

universal version would have been better. There's no way to justify buying twice the same thing. Even with the added comic book.

I hope others that don't own the iphone version buy it so they at least have some incentive to port the other ones as well.

Shame it's not universal. I won't be buying it again.

    Re: Universal apps

You'd feel differently if you were the one that had to do all the work to create new versions. It was a steal at the iPhone price, and is still a steal at the iPad price, even if add both prices together.

Gosh to the 'want it all' generation...

Anyone else having a problem running the HD version? I just bought and installed it and after selecting New Game on start up get a black screen with an arrow at the bottom which when pressed pops me into middle of the first section of the game (where the protagonist finds the dead body of the man she has come to interview). I deleted and re-installed the game, rebooted the iPad and it happened again. I then deleted the HD app from iTunes and then downloaded it again and then installed it with the same problem repeated.

Note: I also own the iPhone app but I never finished it (though I did get much further into the game than the point where the HD version starts...).

    Update to my previous post:

Forum user LostLegend in the Broken Sword HD thread drew my attention to the fact that one has to wait QUITE A WHILE before the Revolution logo comes up. After exercising a bit of patience all seems well. IMHO however that arrow on the bottom of the black screen when starting a new game shouldn't be there.

Thats where its starts, if you dont skip the intro video it shows you how she ends up there, she had gone to interview him, he went into office when heard vase smash and a clown man shoots him and punches her when she runs in.

you start from where she was woke up (after been knocked out) and the wife has gone to ring the police.

Having problems with the iPad version. No matter what I do, can't get out of the hotel. I know I'm supposed to be able to search the green pants and find some type of clue, but game will not allow. Says, pockets are empty. And no help is available to show that I've missed something. Game basically hangs here because without collecting the clue, I'm stuck either inside the hotel or with Guido and friend, or in the alley. HELP!!
