Majic Jungle Software has just posted a new video demonstrating their upcoming Chopper 2 game played on an iPad while being controlled by an iPhone over Bluetooth.

While not an entirely practical way to play your iPad games, it's also something we're itching to try when it comes out.

As we previewed in March, Chopper 2 is a rewrite of the original game with 3D graphics, numerous different landscapes and a realistic physics system. Chopper 2 is said to be in late stages of development and should be coming soon. It will be released for both iPhone/iPod touch and iPad.

    That's very cool!

I'd also love to bluetooth co-op multiplayer!

I actually saw this coming - using your iPod/iPhone as the controller and the iPad as the screen. I do wish though that local WIFI and not just bluetooth can be applicable in connecting the devices as my iPod and my GF's iPod are both 1st gens. Anyway I'll be purchasing an iPad in 2 weeks so I'm really looking forward to all the gaming possibilities.

I've been thinking this would be the ideal way to control iPad shooters. Glad to see a dev is actually trying it out.

This is the way to go controlling wise. No need to cover the display with your fingers anymore!

I'll be getting Chopper 2 as soon as I get my iPad!

I'd rather just control direct on the ipad. And what's up with that trailer music, was there a chopper attack sequence in American Beauty?

I'm not too sure about games like Chopper played with an iPhone controller (though its always great to have as many control options as possible) but for dual stick shooters and other FPS games this could be really great.

guys, dont you see wats going on??
its just crazy to use an iphone as controller for ipad games...
its so much cheaper to buy a xbox or ps3, and you will get a tv for a budget like that also. even better: an laptop

i was just like omg these guys dont care about what it would cost to own both. in germany, the ipod us up to 1,500 euro, that is about 2,000 dollars... think about this please...

    • WiseWeasel

What if you already had an iPhone or iTouch anyway, and you just bought an iPad, so you find yourself owning the gear already, even if you didn't buy it just for this purpose? I suspect that many of those who buy an iPad already have an iPhone or iTouch.

Personally, it's the weight of the device that I found tiring while using it as a controller, especially for racing and other high-action motion-controlled games. I could see this being my preferred method of playing a racing title. I could also imagine this being ideal for local multiplayer, in case you happen to have two iPhones or iTouches handy...

    • tmay

Pretty sure that those considering this already have the iPhone and either have an iPad or are planning on purchasing it anyway. Consider also that there are and will be more apps that use either or both the iPhone and iPad for Mac input devices.

PS3 is on my shopping list when GT5 arrives...

    • swarmster

Huh? The dev has said the game should be under $5. It's meant for people who already own an iPhone and/or iPad.

    • ejjib

ok.. you guys are rich. thats the difference.

Funny how my bringing up using iPhone/touch as an option to control games on a new AppleTV with it's own App Store is thought of as "silly" by some (you know who you are), but THIS nonsense is considered "interesting".

I mean...honestly now. Think about it. Stop and really think about it people. You'd be controlling a mobile computing device with another mobile computing device. Does that not seem a bit...redundant or, at the very least, of very limited value?

Why is this better than chopper 1?

seems like pretty often, improving a game = a whole nother title. doesn't look much different to me, i just get to pay again?

    screw it.

    • Little White Bear Studios

As someone who has played a beta version of Chopper 2, I can tell you that it's entirely new game, and well worth the price. This isn't an upgrade, by any meaning of the word.

If there is demand for such an app for the iPhone/iPod Touch to control an iPad app, there should be a market for a iPad (or even an iPhone/iPod Touch) accessory such as a bluetooth gamepad/joypad with accelerometer. If such a product were priced right (<$20), it should sell very well. A gamepad is a much better control device than an iPhone/iPod Touch. Nothing beats tactile buttons!
