'Baseball Slugger' Knocks it Out of the Park with a 99¢ One Day Sale

posted by Eli Hodapp on July 15th, 2009 2:40 AM EDT in $0.99, Sales, Sports, iPhone games, iPod touch games

833267Com2US's Baseball Slugger [App Store] is on sale for 99¢ today. Baseball Slugger is amazingly fun, for both sports and non-sports fans.

From our review of the game when it came out last month:

The game is structured as a home run derby. You must hit as many home runs as possible before a designated number of outs is achieved. Simple goal, but Baseball Slugger shines in 3 different areas that make it a great game: 1) gameplay mechanic 2) online realtime multiplayer 3) upgradables.

The gameplay is simple enough for children to play (my girlfriend's 7 year old nephew is better than I am) but with the vast array of items that can be purchased with gold balls combined with an online ranking system, Baseball Slugger has depth that even hardcore gamers can appreciate.

At the current sale price of 99¢, you really owe it to yourself to pick this up even if you are only remotely interested in baseball. The realtime multiplayer (Shown at ~1:30 in the above video.) is extremely fun, and the near-instant matchmaking is a shining example of what pick up and play muliplayer on the iPhone should be like.

I've been buying games for the iDevice for as long as the App Store has been selling them, none have seemed so well designed for it than this. Baseball Sluggers is my absolute favorite iPhone game.

Just a side note, the servers for this game seem to run better, smoother than alot of other online multi-player games. I can be as low as two bars of signal on Edge and still play a crisp, clean game :)

Looks too damn boring with very limited gameplay.

It's actually incredibly fun. I thought it looked a little too boring, but with all of the content and the multiplayer, it's truly entertaining.

The multiplayer feature is amazing! Great fun!

  • munkee says:

    does it require OS 3.0?

If it does, I won't be getting it because a few of my fave games still have glitches with 3.0.

I don't know anything about baseball sport (i'm French and this is not a "classic" sport here). Do I have a chance to understand (and enjoy) this game ? It seems to be fun and well designed but i'm afraid that it can be boring for a non-fan of the real sport…

Can I share my personal drug-game ? try drawrace. addictive, pretty and a basic gameplay specially created for iphone.

With all the acheivements and character upgrading, this game should provide pelenty of replay value. The dude playing really sucks though! :) I play this game at least once or twice a day.

i know NOTHING about baseball but this is brilliant fun.
Multiplayer… character unlocks… how can you say this looks limited!!

Anyone care to offer me tips though.
I have no idea of the rules.
Sometimes i get a foul and no idea why.
Also no idea when to hit the ball to make it go further.

    • hkiphone says:

A Foul appears to be when the ball flies too far left or right of the field. The ball has to stay within 45degrees left or right of the pitcher.

If I remember right…. my exposure to Baseball is limited, but this game might be the start of something new… :)

  • This is well worth the money at 99c it is a steal. This game will provide you with hours of fun just like I have had. The multiplayer is brilliantly configured and will bring short and long-term gameplay.

Oliath, It all has to do with timing the swing time and contact with placement of the bat determines ball placement. Use the shadowing of the bat to place / predict when and where you think the ball will be best hit. After you get the timing dow the best thing to do is start with upgrading your player.

    It's a great bathroom game

I know very little about baseball but absolutely love this game!

Both the upgrade system and the desire to beat other players during 'Match Play' (online multiplayer) spur you on.

Although the controls are simple to learn, I found them quite difficult to master but as someone above said, its all about the timing. I find if I swing a split second AFTER I would have normally pressed, I get the best results!

This is a must buy. I don't care if you like baseball or not just for the multilayer competitive factor it was worth the price for me. I have been playing it off and on all day since i downloaded it.

  • Jose says:

Just picked up the game, based on this post. You should be ashamed of yourself, Eli: might as well have gotten me hooked on crack. At least at $.99 I won't have to prostitute myself to afford my fix.

  • acer says:

They should charge more than 99 cents for the game it looks like a lot of hard work went into that. Hell I just brought a Sinker and coke for more than that. Let support the people that make quality games by buying their games if they charge more than 99 cents. Good job on this game guys.
