3D Checkers screenWhile we were at WWDC 2009, Koduco showed us their then-upcoming, free iPhone checkers title 3D Checkers [App Store].  The game has since appeared in the App Store.

Simply put, 3D Checkers is the best checkers game available for the iPhone.  And, well…it's free.

The game features drag-and-drop gameplay, two play modes (player vs. player and player vs. computer), two AI difficulty levels, and two board designs.  Indeed, checkers is not the most hardcore of games, but anyone who enjoys a little of the red and black (or white, in this case) would do well to grab this one.

Those tree-frog toes in Apple's patents ARE freaky!

The 3D finger makes me think of Peter Sellers as Clouseau: "The moving fingaire wrrites…"

Its a great game, one of the best, I hate to say this but there is one problem…

It is a bit too easy, even on harder where they let obvious chances to beat me and ends I managed to beat it on harder in 23 moves.

Still a great game though and as its free a must have to kill some time and have a bit of fun

I just tried it and it doesn't seem any better than Checkers Free by Optime Software. I think games like Chess and Checkers are better played on a 2D board. Anyway, you can easily beat the AI by following a simple strategy: Don't move your bottom four pieces and just concentrate on turning one of your other pieces into a king. Do that and you'll win every game.

I beat hard in 38 moves. Anybody know what is the minimum number of moves required to beat an opponent in checkers?

Didn't they already solve checkers? That is, it is possible for a computer to play a perfect game and never lose. I guess that wouldn't be much fun. :)
