First Person Shooter 'LiveFire' Becomes 'KillTest' and New Trailer

temp-image_14_1jpgNgmoco has released a trailer for their upcoming first person shooter formerly known as LiveFire. The new name for the game appears to be "KillTest" based on the trailer video.

The video first appeared on GameTrailers.com and has since been mirrored onto YouTube (embedded below). Eli recently had hands on time with the ambitious deathmatch shooter:

The controls for LiveFire are so intuitive I had already figured out how everything worked before they even started explaining it to me. They call it a "touch anywhere" control scheme, where the right half of the screen regardless of where you're touching controls your aiming and the left half controls your movement. Since they're working with a limited set of input methods, firing is handled automatically. If you get someone in your crosshairs, you automatically start shooting.

Firing can also be triggered manually be tapping on the reticle.

The trailer video shows off the new look, maps and weapons of the game and emphasizes the ability to play over 3G or Wi-Fi.

The game is due for release this summer.

Looking forward to this, but I really liked the old name :\

  • Christian says:

What an amazingly generic name. LiveFire was much better.

  • ZZMitch says:

All if it looks good except the fact that ngmoco somehow managed to find a name that is as bad as LiveFire is good (and LiveFire is an awesome name). I mean seriously, it would be hard for me to come up with a worse name (iFPS would be worse but that is already taken)

    KillTest? WTH?

  • Adams Immersive says:

I don't like the new name either. I propose "FireTrial" and I'm sure ngmoco is hanging on my opinion here :p

But whatever the name, this game looks really great and I can't wait! FPS controls are evolving ever closer to ideal–better than you might think possible on a touchscreen! I haven't played this but I have high hopes. I don't mind the lack of jumping and fire control. Those would be cool, but at the same time, the additional simplicity makes the game more accessible. Looking at the video, I think the classic DM experience is still largely present.

P.S. "Test" comes from the weapon-testing "story" behind the game, and as 'your personal robot' pointed out in the forums, "LiveFire" is already an online Star Wars game. So that name was taken.

  • Oahusurf says:

Stupid how they are obviously using a mouse in the videos, i hope the controls are good, if so the game looks great!

  • hobbes says:

    Ehhh I liked "livefire" better

    Game looks good tho

  • TimothyB says:

KillTest Sounds too much like Killzone, just odd with the word test, and doesn't sound pleasing as LiveFire. I'd rather see a random made up word that just sounds nice. And Live worked for the multiplayer gameplay and in a way similar to a gun with live ammo.

  • Stanley says:

I was skeptical of the earlier demonstrations, but this presentation looks like a great deal of fun. I wonder if it would be wiser to hold off purchasing such a graphically-intensive game until the iPhone 3G S is widely available, though.

  • uoogi says:

Is it just me, or is the screen aspect ratio wrong?

  • Silent Rocco says:

There is already a LiveFire online game in the Star Wars universe, so I'm pretty sure, that's the reason, why they had to change it. We will get used to the new title and the game seems to promise the first good FPS on the idevices, can't wait. And I also can't wait for the first bashing in here, because ngmoco:) will set some advertising on this site, for sure… :)

  • hello says:

    or LiveKill! haha

  • Chad says:

Shouldn't Kill Test be the beta name and LiveFire be the LIVE version name? Those guys must be dyslexic.

  • jimmychoo says:

LiveFire is a better name than KillTest, but both aren't that great. Either way, the game looks like it will be the best death match style FPS on the iPhone/iPod Touch…

Hopefully this gives id a good reason to get a move on Quake 3!

  • along123 says:

    awesome ngmoco dude …can't wait!

  • phosphide says:

Doesn't support for OpenGL|ES 2.0 mean it will be incompatible with older iPhones and iTouches (2.0 breaks backward compatibility)? Or will it support both versions of OpenGL, only look better on 3G S?

    • nizy says:

It was in development prior to the announcement of 3GS. It will be developed for the older devices, but will likely just run more smoothly on the 3GS (better framerate, faster load times etc). Besides, why would any dev limit their game to just the 3GS when it currently has 0 users compared to 40m user of existing devices.

  • Jerome says:

Shame about the first name already being taken, It had kind of a nice ring to it (being so like the term 'livewire'), and like TimothyB said, made sense considering the emphasis on over-the-air multiplayer, and the use of 'live' ammo in the matches. In comparison, 'KillTest' sounds very utilitarian and generic, as if someone thought "Hmmmm, there's a test going on… it involves killing… Ah hah!"

  • K7A7O7S says:

The story line is that you are in a test being carried out by a company (sounds similar to Unreals "Liandri". While the name does sound generic and too simple, by adding something as simple as operation to the beginning would make it better. "Operation KillTest" Just an opinion.

  • mactds says:

This looks absolutely awesome, and I think Killtest is a good name with the 3.0 notification system, where someone challenges you to a killtest.

  • Blake says:

is this game only going to be played over wi-fi?

    • EightFlyingCars says:

The answer to your question is, like, right there at the end of the article, dude.

      Seriously. It's right there.

  • Omen says:

I have played iFps online for a while now, and after reading an article or two I saw how awesome this game looks! I really hope it's not incredibly expensive, and not just for 3.0. I liked the name Livefire better, either way this is going top the charts no doubt! I can't wait!

  • Omen says:

    Security Word: Toast…Mhhhhh yumm.

Whatever, I was just thinking. It automatically fires? That is kind of…stupid. That is kind of the piont of FPS is the aiming and firing part. I was thinking that if you tap the right side, that you would fire. Tap the left side and you jump.

  • Omen says:

Haha, I'm not actually illiterate. Using my iPod some parts of the article didn't load, and I don't read it all, whatever, I'm wrong about the firing, ignore me.
