Video of '2XL Supercross' Off-Road Motorcycle Racer
posted by arn on April 4th, 2009 3:59 AM EDT in Upcoming Games2XL Games has posted an exciting video of their upcoming off-road motorcycle racer 2XL SuperCross.
2XL Supercross was built from the ground up to push the graphics and physics potential of the iPhone and iPod Touch to the max. The game was created by the designers of Motocross Madness, ATV Offroad Fury and MX Unleashed.
Motorcycle racers haven't been well represented in the App Store, and this upcoming release looks particularly impressive. The 1.0 version of the game has reportedly been submitted to the App Store and so should appear in the next week or so.
According to a forum post by one of the developers, the game will include 15 different bikes to chose from with 15 different skins and 15 different rider skins. There are 12 different tracks, including a freestyle level. The game will be priced at $7.99.

We'll take a closer look when the game becomes available in the App Store.

The game looks great and deep especially with all the bikes and skins to choose from. The bike physics look high end too, but of course, this is just video.
Impressive!
$7.99 for the launch price?! This is a new game which people aren't already familiar with from another platform so I'd be surprised if many people take the plunge at that very high price.
Are you serious?! We have not seen anything like this on the App Store. It looks as if it could be a PSP game. With tons of skins, bikers, bikes, and tracks, I don't think that $14.99 would be unreasonable. People need to sit back and realize that this era of $0.99 games will end. As long as the gameplay is good, $7.99 will be a steal for this game. That said, I probably won't be TOFTT for this one because I just never liked racing games… but if I did like them, then I would jump on this for $7.99.
Except ExZeus, the first game to bring the PSP look and feel and Arcade style on the iPod touch
Until very recently, most new games like this were $9.99.
I'll definitely be picking this up for $7.99. I'm actually excited about this one.
That looks SICK. I'm in.
Wow I wish the video was fullscreen but ghat looked incredible! Might actually go next to Real Racing when it comes out. Only thing is when you turn in third person view the game horizon should stay steady to keep you from feeling disoriented. In first person it's cool though.
Yes, it looks VERY cool in first-person!
Too bad the same public-noise-sample runs every damn corner.
I like how it looks jumpy. It makes it seem more realistic. When you ride those things in real life you bounce all over and they can definitely make you feel disoriented, so it only makes sense to make the game the same way.
Nice graphics.
What I expect from racing games is online multiplayer, global leaderboards or at least ghost racing, so I can play with other gamers all over the world.
I own Mario Kart and hopefully Excitebots soon (both Wii), so there's no need for me to buy racing games that aren't at least as great as real racing or fast & furious.
I hope the tilt control is as good as it's in Aquo Moto Racing, but I'd love to see touch control. Does anyone remember the nifty touch control of snail mail? Would't that be great for gamers that are sick of tilt control?

Second that
This looks great just like the psp games which were very playable. Can't wait.
looks fantastic man.. hope they're going to intro it at $4.99 though ..hehe!
That has some of the sharpest graphics I have seen on the iPhone yet. It really gives off a strong impression of speed. The sound effects a crisp and clear and the handling looks spot on, which is a must for any racing game.
Thank you for an outstanding first look!
Crom
I want it NOW!
Hell! That looks just like Motocross Madness! Can't wait!
should be.. it's from essentially the same guys.
2XL was spawned by the same people who started Rainbow Studios.
cant argue with them visualls and the handling looks very good, lets hope though like most graphic intense games the battery does not suffer eh. good luck guys.
Looks great. I'm hoping that there is some more realism involved, like FALLING.
Looks like Great visuals and sound though! Good job so far.
Graphically impressive and very smooth~
Controls seem great as well, almost like Aqua Moto.
However, the physics don't seem to have any depth judging by the video.
Collisions don't do anything,
There's no tilt forward or backward to balance the bike in the air for proper landing (I'm thinking Excitebike)
Also adding tricks while racing should be fun.
I think Hmm is right on the button! Some aspects look great (visuals, sense of speed), but others look really lacking
What this game needs is a good physics emulator for shifting your weight back and forward to control the height of jumps and the quality of the landings. Look at what G.I. Joyride has done – they got it *perfect*
It looks very impressive!
$7.99 seems expensive compared to a lot games available in the App Store.
So, like others mentioned, if there are lots of tracks, skins, options, etc. … AND they release a demo version to get a taste… $7.99 won't be such a bad deal.
Nice realtime shadows. Nice iPod silhouette look on the hands.
The shadow is not realtime, it is an image that is placed/scaled on the ground… still looks very impressive!
This look incredible. I wonder how soon Apple will approve it.
The game looks AMAZING, but the same "applaud" sound playing over and over at random times seems like it would get annoying. Aside from that, I can't wait and I will definitely be getting this!!!
Wow. I'm picking this one up soon as its available.
This looks very impressive. Plus, people need to stop complaining about prices. Looking at this, $8 is a steal. I'll probably pick this up at launch, as I personally think it looks fantastic
Wow, another racer…Doesn't look like it includes any tilt or anything to make it different than any other iphone racer.
^^Did you not watch the video with the guy tilting the phone to turn?
It doesn't appear up/down tilt is incorporated, it would have been a nice feature for "pre-loading" for jumps, and landing.
@hmm
"Yes you can use the accelerometer to pitch forward and backwards in the air, you can also do back flips and whip the bike. There's also 2 other control schemes that use your left thumb as a joystick, if you don't like the accelerometer, I really think anyone will be able to find a control scheme that they like, and all of them are also available for left handed people."

Whoa, this looks sweet. I thought I had enough racing games, and I wasn't massively impressed with the video at first ..but when they switched to first person. Wow. So much more immersive.
Would like to see a some dirt flicking up off the bikes, not just dust. But yeah, I just might have to pick this up.
That frame-rate is silky-smooth. Oh, and kudos for making a *quality* video there: neutral background and great illustration of the tilt controls.
