EA: 'Need for Speed Undercover' Coming to iPhone

posted by Blake Patterson on August 15th, 2008 12:39 PM EDT in News, Racing, Upcoming Games, iPhone games, iPod touch games

As Gamasutra reports, Electronic Arts has announced that Need For Speed Undercover, the twelfth installment of its popular racing series, will be released for the iPhone and other platforms.

According to EA CEO John Riccitiello, Need for Speed Undercover will bring better innovation and gameplay than the series' previous incarnations.

Also notable is the fact that the game will star Mission Impossible III actress Margaret Quigley.

As a handler, she will recruit and guide players as they go undercover to infiltrate and take down an international crime syndicate. Players will complete dangerous jobs, compete in street races, and take part in cop chases along the way.

Need for Speed Undercover is set to ship to stores in North America on November 18 and in Europe on November 21.  It is unclear at this time whether the game's appearance in the iTunes App Store will occur in that same timeframe.

See the teaser movie released by EA for a loose glimpse of what's to come.

A popular racing series, but unfortunately completely shit with cheating AI and typical chav-boy racer shitness. Thanks EA, there is a new device on the market that encourages innovation and you release yet another dire NFS installment (and it will be dire, or it's not NFS and EA isn't EA).

Well, it this is all true, then that's it for me and EA, forever. They are liars and capitalist scumbags. They can keep their games. I will never buy an EA game ever again. I swear to you. NFS iphone was supposed to be a gift for someone for xmas. Now xmas is over, I spent my money elsewhere. After the series of lies from EA in regards to the games release, I figured that it would be best to just forget about it. EA is the New SEGA. Lies, hype and more BS. I call for gamers to boycott these people. Why do we have to put up with all of this? Dont buy their games.

  • Mario Rodriguez says:

Well, I've waited about three months now, and still no NFS Undercover. WTF! I do have patience, but not this much. I need this game or I'll, I'll, well I have no idea yet, but oh, wait. We can sue for false advertising. But, I'm not that kind of person. Anyone who reads this can unwillingly take my idea.

  • D says:

You notice that the article says "set to ship to NA stores Nov 18"

  • Speedfreak says:

  • Speedfreak says:

Sorry I mean HP2 to undercover! Sorry to confuse you!

  • mrschell says:

One word march, EA said that there waitng till march to release need for speed for iphone so that they can make other games. i know this from news at ign.com.

  • Meh says:

yeah!! It's march and it should be out soon. It's obvious that it's coming out before 2012, because NFS Undercover would be 3 years old!!! There would be a new NFS out. Duh.

  • rrrfffddd says:

i am so eager to get this game
but its 12th march 2009 and the is still not out there please
i hope the concerned authorities will help all of us
    thank you

  • ajax says:

i have been waiting for this game for too long. i gave ea until today to come out with it. they said sometime in march so i thought march 15th would be enough time. im still going to get the game, im just a little pissed that they waited so long. and those people out there who say ea is terrible and they wont buy the game are a-holes. there still gonna get the game and it will still be awsome. if anyone knows anything about the release date please leave a reply. :)

  • UberPubert69 says:

Honestly, WTF? I heard about this coming out in September of last year! Its now well beyond my patience and March is almost over. IF the do end up releasing this game for the iPhone, it better be the best F*$%in' game for the iphone EVER!

  • You know, this is a bit ridiculous. There is NO WAY the game is still so buggy they can't release it… They're called updates.

If I recall correctly, they said early March. Well. Mid-March has passed. What is going on? Release it already. Stop playing faux promise games. It's pissing a whole lot of people off royally.

  • schplurg says:

You actually would rather have a buggy (assuming it even is buggy) game than a good game? The Appstore is FLOODED with half completed games! F that

  • mehdi says:

ik wil nu die codes van need voor speed andercover

  • rrrfffddd says:

need for speed undercover is still not out
    i am getting pissed off
it was to be released in 2008
    now is nearly april 2009
    EA u suck till now

    • Capone says:

EA showed the line up for the iPhone some days ago. Impressive!
I still would recommend that you concentrate on companies that are dedicated to the iPhone, like Secret Exit, Freeverse or ngmoco:).
Because it seems that big companies like Namco, Konami or EA still need some time to get the hang of the iPhone's capabilities.
And no one of us wants some cheap adaptions or ports.

  • nfsgamer says:

If EA was going to release it so late they should have introduced it in January or February so that thousands of people aren't hyped up for something that isn't out when they expectted it to be. Now we are all pissed the **** off!!! Get the game out soon or not at all so we don't waste our time waiting for a game that isn't coming out!!!

  • I want, nay, DEMAND, a lengthy explanation as to what the hell is going down at EA, that has prevented them from putting this out. My assumption concludes to 1 of 2 things.

    1) They are waiting for that $20 Premium App section, so that NFS can be the first (or one of the first) hyped up Apps to debut there. Reality check, EA – that's basically the only hype the game could possibly have left.

    2) They are waiting for the 3.0 software to use the Peer to Peer connectivity, and more importantly, the In-App Purchasing – which I believe is a horrid milking concept altogether.

Either way, count on EA trying to get every dollar they can out of this game, because they likely have realized what a rancid flop it is going to become.

    • dean says:

craig posted screenshots in feb i think it was. they totally redesigned the game. the graphics have a big boost. also it looks like it's not auto acceleration any more. judging on the screenshots. anyway, they looked real and i guess ea is just busy polishing it this way. i hate how their not communicating though.

  • NeedforGame says:

right..the last release date that EA set was in march right??? Let me see…its april now..

  • ryan says:

wtf this is ridiculous… it's April 5th. shouldve been out for nearly 6 months now

  • EAIS says:

    Lol, EA is Shit….
Electronic Arts Should Be Energetic Farts

  • Maulwurff says:

NFS Undercover is the Duke of the iDevice ;) )
