It’s hard to believe it’s been almost a year since Ironhide Studio launched Iron Marines ($2.99), their hybrid real-time strategy game. Known for their excellent Kingdom Rush series of tower defense games, Iron Marines took a lot of what made those games tick but with a more RTS-style framework, all wrapped up in the fantastic art and animations that have made them a standout developer on mobile. While Ironhide did release a pretty meaty content update a couple of months after the game’s release, things have been relatively quiet since then. Until today that is, when they announced a brand new planet called Borealis coming to Iron Marines on September 27th. Check out the trailer.

Pretty exciting stuff! In case you missed out on Iron Marines when it launched last year, check out our full 5 star review as well as our Game of the Week post where we pretty much gush about all the things we love about this game. One of the only real complaints about Iron Marines when it came out was that people wanted more of it, so a content update like this one is very welcome. Of course there’s also that new Kingdom Rush game coming too, so I appreciate that Ironhide has found some time to show this wonderful little game some more love. Look for the Borealis to launch in Iron Marines later this month on September 27th.
