It was all the way back in January of 2019 that we first checked out The Day We Fought Space, a unique scrolling shooter from developer Tursiops Truncatus. The thing that makes this one really stand out is that The Day We Fought Space is a physics-based shoot ’em up, meaning that your weaponry and especially the debris of blasted enemies all have a weight to them which can be used to create chain reactions of destruction. To feed into that, the game features all sorts of incredibly unique and inventive types of weapons to ensure that you have plenty of stuff to fling at enemies in addition to plenty of bullets to blast. It’s been a long time coming, but finally The Day We Fought Space has a firm release date, and it’s heading to the iOS App Store next month on May 26th. Check out the newest trailer.
Besides the use of physics, another thing The Day We Fought Space wanted to do to help differentiate it from typical games in the shoot ’em up genre is have players rely on fast reactions rather than rote memorization of enemy and bullet patterns. To that end the game features procedurally generated missions so each run isn’t the same as the last, and you’ll have to rely on your wits and your reflexes, as well as your customizable arsenal of weaponry and gear, to make it out alive. Following the game’s original announcement in 2019 we got a hands-on demo of the game during GDC and came away quite impressed, and besides a new trailer in January of 2020 we hadn’t heard much about its progress since. So I’m extra excited to see this The Day We Fought Space finally have a release date, and you can even pre-order the game on the App Store right now for $3.99 ahead of its May 26th launch.
