Spry Fox has released its first major update for Alphabear 2 (Free), following the game’s launch last month. It’s a game I continue to pick up daily, finding consistent reasons to return thanks to bear school and daily events. You can read more about the game in my review; and in addition to all the good things it has going for it, something new has been added – special events!
Special events differ from daily events in that they only appear on certain days, and do seem to offer better/more rewards. Special events are only open for a small amount of time, for now there’s nothing longer than two days. These levels don’t cost honey to play but you can only do so a set number of times (usually once per day).
There is a consistent rotation of special events that occur weekly on Thursday and Friday. These events are set up to reward you with epic and legendary bears. As of right now, there are five pairs of events set up, so each rotation will reoccur every five weeks. If you can’t complete it, make note of why and you can level up helpful bears for your next shot. The school is more important now than ever! Once complete, you won’t be able to continue participating in that certain event.
Some events can only be completed once, such as the Honey Pot event on today. You can, however, replay the game when it comes up again in the future. There will also be holiday events (beginning with Halloween!) appearing in the special events space in the coming weeks and months.
With this addition of special events, the home screen of Alphabear 2 is complete, with no greyed out sections. I’ve never been so happy to know that I’ve been steadily leveling up my bears since release, but if you’re a newcomer don’t fret – the game is completely accessible for any skill level, with a reasonable difficulty curve, so it is never too late to pick it up!
