The Remastered ‘Romancing SaGa 3’ Will be Getting a Western Release

A little more than a year ago, Square Enix released an enhanced remake of their classic 16-bit RPG Romancing SaGa 2 on the Japanese App Store. Given the relatively niche appeal of the game outside of Japan, we weren’t sure we’d ever get an English language version. However, Squeenix surprised us all by announcing that the game would get a worldwide release, and just a couple of months following its debut in Japan they released Romancing SaGa 2 ($17.99) to the world. As per our resident RPG expert Shaun Musgrave, the game was real good and stuff, and interestingly mobile was the only platform for which they released that localized version of the game. Fast forward to late last month and Square Enix announced that the sequel to that game, Romancing SaGa 3, would also be getting an enhanced remake for both mobile and PlayStation Vita for release in Japan. Again, we wondered whether or not a localized version was in the cards as it seemed the worldwide release of Romancing SaGa 2 didn’t exactly bring in the big bucks. Well, it appears that we will indeed be getting an English language version of Romancing SaGa 3 as per the following tweet.

The tricky thing here is trying to guess when we can all be playing Romancing SaGa 3. As the previous release showed, there was only a couple of months in between the Japanese and worldwide releases of Romancing SaGa 2, but according to the tweet they’ll be bringing that second game to the Vita first before starting in on the localization of the third entry. And we still don’t really know when Romancing SaGa 3 is releasing in Japan to even give us an idea of when a Western release might be. At any rate, just the news that it’s happening is likely good enough for fans of the series so once any more details start coming out we’ll be sure to let you know.
