You don’t have to be a scientist to realize that Torchlight Mobile will be very divisive once it releases. This mobile take on the PC classic isn’t a faithful port but, rather, a re-imagining of the game for mobile. And, as you can imagine, that re-imagining isn’t going down well with fans of the original, as you can see in our forum thread. The latest gameplay trailer shows off the Kitsune class and nice huge boss. What you can see from the trailer is that the game has a different feel from the original and slightly faster action, which was to be expected. There’s definitely a lot going on and those hit points are huge, so I have to wonder how it will look on an iPhone.
Many in the forums are complaining that Torchlight Mobile looks like many other iOS RPGs now, and they aren’t too happy about that. I’m not surprised to see the developers trying to make the game faster and more accessible, since they want to grab as many players as possible. As we wrote a few weeks back, the new version of the game will add some new features like PvP modes, which should be fun to play. Will fans of the original be happy with the new one? Probably not, but the question is will it attract a new player base or will it just end up being a forgettable game? We’ll see hopefully soon.
