Get Your Censorship On (Or Not) When ‘The Westport Independent’ Launches on Desktop and Mobile this Week

Just about a year ago two-person Swedish indie developer Double Zero One Zero announced that their Ludum Dare 48 game jam entry The Westport Independent would be getting fleshed out for a full release on desktop and mobile. The following May they released an alpha preview of the game, and announced that it was set to be published by Coffee Stain Studios of Goat Simulator fame. This past Friday Double Zero One Zero at long last announced a release date for The Westport Independent, this Thursday January 21st on both desktop and mobile. Check out the brand new release trailer.

If you missed any of our previous coverage of the game, The Westport Independent is about managing an independent newspaper amidst the rise of a totalitarian government. You’ll struggle with how you report the news as the government tries to control its own message and coverup its wrongdoings. Do you listen to them in hopes of being in their good graces or do you report the facts in an effort to spread the factual and important news to the citizens. It’s got a similar vibe to the popular Paper, Please ($4.99), but is a bit more complex as you’ll be trying to successfully run your paper as a business and sell papers while also managing your team of reporters who may or may not agree with whatever the message is that you want to print. It sounds very interesting and I’m excited to finally get my hands on The Westport Independent this Thursday.
