DeNA’s ‘Marvel Mighty Heroes’ Launches Worldwide on iOS and Android

TouchArcade Rating:

If you’ve been awaiting the arrival of that Marvel beat ’em up game, no not THAT one, THIS one, then wait no longer: DeNA has just officially launched Marvel Mighty Heroes (Free) in the App Store and on Google Play. The game was originally announced back in February, and entered soft-launch just under a week ago. That’s probably one of the quickest soft-launch periods I’ve ever seen, but hey, I’m not complaining.

As mentioned, Marvel Mighty Heroes is a beat ’em up where the major features are online cooperative and competitive play with up to 4 players as well as an extensive roster of Marvel Superheroes and Villains to unlock and play with. The game is played with simple tap-to-move and tap-to-fight controls, along with buttons for special moves or swapping out your character. It reminds me a bit of a shrunken down version of the awesome Marvel Ultimate Alliance games from way back when.

Being a free to play game, there are certain aspects to Marvel Mighty Heroes besides its gameplay that you should be aware of. There are energy timers, multiple currencies, and the game requires an online connection to play. Those are all pretty much a given by now, right? Also, like Kabam’s Marvel Contest of Champions (Free) and other similar games, unlocking characters is built entirely around a lottery system, so even if you plunk down some of your hard-earned currency towards a new character there’s no guarantee you’ll get the one you wanted.

Like I said, this is all pretty typical free to play stuff, and if you’re cool with that then Marvel Mighty Heroes is actually a ton of fun. Fighting alongside real people online is a total blast and, as cumbersome and confusing as the hero unlocking and upgrading system can be, it’s still really satisfying to build up your roster of characters. So hey, if you’re into Marvel and like brawlers, there’s no harm in checking out Marvel Mighty Heroes for free, and dropping your thoughts in the forum thread.
