A few months ago, ustwo announced that they were creating new levels for Monument Valley ($3.99), their beloved and popular puzzling adventure game of Escherian geometry. Well, between the Apple Design Award, Android release, million copies sold, and just the ravages of time, it’d be easy to forget that new levels are coming. Well, good news: those new levels are still coming, and we have proof, as a screenshot was posted on Twitter over the weekend by ustwo founder Mills.
It doesn’t really give away much – there’s a new landscape, a waterfall among a cloudy gray landscape, but it does show that they can make more gorgeous-looking levels, even when they are portraying something drab. I mean, it’s cloudy outside my window right now and it’s nowhere as pretty as this. Of course, this fits with the principle ustwo has where “if any level isn’t print worthy they bin it."
While we don’t quite know how this or any other new levels will play, as ustwo’s Neil McFarland said in an earlier interview, “We are making some more levels, but the reasons we’re doing it are artistic reasons: there are some ideas that we didn’t get to work so didn’t put in there, but which we’d like to see work. There are some other things we’d like to try." So hopefully expect some fresh experiences from what ustwo’s got cooking up. I’m excited to see what’s in store, as the game is a rare experience.
