Over the summer we got word that the classic vertically scrolling shooter Raiden would be making an official appearance on iOS along with three of its spinoff titles in a package called Raiden Legacy. Today, we’ve learned that Raiden Legacy is officially set to hit in just a couple of weeks, on December 4th. It will include the original groundbreaking title Raiden as well as the spinoff series Raiden Fighters, Raiden Fighters 2, and Raiden Fighters Jet.
The game is being handled by DotEmu, who have a wealth of experience porting titles to iOS, most recently with the SNK NeoGeo titles Metal Slug 3 ($2.99) and Blazing Star ($0.99) but also such classics as Another World 20th Anniversary Edition ($3.99) and the original R-Type ($0.99). I feel like the legacy of Raiden is in good hands here.
I’m not going to lie, I never got into the Raiden Fighters games back in the day, but I’m curious to check them out all these years later. Sill, I’d kill for iOS ports of Raiden II and Raiden DX. Perhaps I’ll get my wish someday, but getting four complete Raiden games in one tidy package is nothing to sneeze at, and I’m really excited to get my hands on Raiden Legacy to see how it translates to the touchscreen. You can swing by our forums for some discussion of Raiden Legacy, and mark your calendars for December 4th when it finally arrives on the App Store.
