Flight / Sports Title ‘Clusterball 2’ for iPhone Demonstrated

Swedish game developer Resolution Interactive has released a preview of their forthcoming flight / action / sports hybrid Clusterball 2.

Clusterball 2 for the iPhone is a conversion of the developer’s existing PC title (pictured) and offers unique, fast-paced gameplay that, as the demonstration video illustrates, translates well to the iPhone’s accelerometer-based control systems.

Clusterball is a high-paced, adrenaline pumping flight sport demanding skill, tactics and ball control – designed as a first person shooter but without the splatter and gore. Played in midair with high tech aircraft, your objective is to gather and score as many balls as possible while trying your best to keep your opponents from doing the same. As your tail grows longer, your ship will gradually slow down, making you more vulnerable to attacks. Thus, each extra ball gathered involves a calculated risk.

According to Resolution Interactive, the game will feature various online components including gamer profiles, public scoreboards, and challenger features and sport graphics that are above and beyond what is available for the iPhone today.

Clusterball® 2 for iPhone will aim to make a mark on the iPhone market by offering the highest quality of graphics and maneuverability through the gyro controls. With a fast-paced gameplay and obstacle rich environment, Clusterball® 2 for iPhone will be an adrenaline filled experience for young and old alike.

“Clusterball® 2 for iPhone is very exciting, and will be a new start for us." Say Lars Lindstrom, founder at Resolution Interactive. “We look forward to present our new demo as well as our coming titles at the GC convention next week".

Resolution Interactive will be demonstrating the title at next week’s Game Convention in Leipzig Germany where we hope to hear additional details including an App Store release date.  Stay tuned.

A demo video of the PC version offers an additional glimpse at gameplay.

still rubbish though... we are all awaiting need for speed now. the developer will have to do better than this, competition is strong.

True, this games already got killed by asphalt 4, shouldve started on another game to match nfs instead of a patch for this game...-.-

Asphalt 4 set the bar pretty high and with Need For Speed round the corner - this game is going to have to really be amazing. Given that NFS is a well known brand anyways - even if it isnt as good as A4 - it will still sell big time. But having seen the video at the Apple conference recently - NFS does look the business. This game is worth $5 tops and then probably $2 after NFS comes out.

NFS will kill this. We are all awaiting the next big thing. the iphone/touch is just touching on on what it can do its getting better and better, its only time.

they should have started making a new game rather than rehashing this. sorry but it is true. it is good for the consumer though as competition is strong.

    hey brian

i know that you are working on iphone websites/apps and you know this stuff.

If the iPhone want to hit the level of the PSP it needs a Grand Theft Auto game like on the PSP. I would LOOOOVE to see that...I hope it happens. I don't own a PSP and never would. Im not that into gaming, I dont own an consoles. SInce I own a iPhone though I have downloaded quite a few games and enjoy them a lot!

GTSWR still has some potential to be a more decent game than it is. It needs a lot more complex tracks(maybe some real world ones, that we all know and love), such as Suzuka, Jerez, Monaco, Estoril, Magny-Cours, Monza etc.

    ^^^^ Don't forget Laguna Seca!

The graphics have been updated? Have they? They look the same to me- same boring hills and tunnels. Why are the tunnels still marked out on the map (like we need to know) when it still doesn't show where the finish line is? Doesn't the dev think that's as important as the tunnel?
It's a shame as I like how this controls, but it's too easy, and gets boring very quickly. Who needs 60 odd tracks when you get bored after you've raced round one?

I also haven't noticed any changes in the graphics. The car that you are steering is sill not moving threedimensional to an angle when drifting, the sky is still mirrored (you can even see that in the screenshot), the tracks are still looking very dull. There is no real challenge here. It also feels too slow. How about a boost? How about things you can collect on the track? How about some more interaction going on, airplanes flying in the sky, maybe some obstacles to avoid on the street? There is not enough motivation here that keeps you playing. It's a pity because I also like the controls (except for the "too flat message", it is quite irritating). This could be a great game, but there too much design flaws IMO.

I don't know - I didn't like this game at first; but after buying Asphalt 4 I prefer GTS World Racer.

It's more realistic than A4 (not saying much!) - if you like racing vs arcade silly nitro physics, it's the best (only) option on the iPhone.

@whooley: I also prefer GTS World Racer to Asphalt 4 after spending more time with both in the past day or two. It "feels" better.
